5/28 Pirates (Maholm) @ Cubs (Wells) 12:05 PM CDT, CSN TV

Yuck. Congratulations, Jake. When is the draft again?

Begins June 6th.

Considering this game is not worth talking about, anyone want to make predictions on who the Cubs will take and how outraged everyone will be when they make that selection?

I know you're kidding, but who could they conceivably pick that would cause outrage? Only scenario I can think of is Lindor with the Bubba and the Bradleys still on the table.

I keep having visions of the Cubs picking someone like LHP Grayson Garvin out of Vandy with their first rounder. Nice guy, good potential, but he's not considered to be even a second round talent by most people. After Hayden Simpson last year, it's impossible to predict who the Cubs will take.

I'll settle for someone MLB Network actually has a nameplate for to hang on the draft board.

I keep thinking that Dave Littlefield works for you guys now.

This makes me smile.

There's just going to be so much talent up there with the type of guys Wilken loves that I don't think he'd go obscure. Now, I won't be happy with Lindor but yeah.

You want someone from Vandy (besides Gray)? I bet Wilken is all over Esposito.

Ricketts was in the bleacher box the next section over for me. He pulled a Dusty though, and had his young daughter with him, so even if I had something clever to heckle him with, I thought it'd be rude.

you could have at least pooped in his seat when he got up for a minute

i would say it's time for a fire sale, but we don't really have players that other teams want.

Sure we do. We have plenty of guys having solid seasons. They just suck as a team. Aramis would generate interest. His track record speaks along. The power may not be there, but hes still hitting. Fukudome is still a good lefty bat and a great glove. Someone would take Pena as well, be it as a starter of a bench bat. Reed Johnson is having a good enough season that he could bring in a fringer or 2. Dont forget Kerry Wood. A lot of teams need help at the back of the pen.

from another thread:

Hmmm. Ramirez has a complete NTC and even if he agrees to be dealt, then his option next year kicks in at 16.5 mill. Considering his season to date and weigh that with what he's going to be owed for the following year if he's dealt and guess what? He ain't movin'.

fukudome isn't worth the $13.5m that they're paying him, and i suspect that they'd have to eat most of the remaining money to get any sort of decent prospects in return. pena is also highly paid for poor production, so same story. reed johnson was basically available to every team in major league baseball in the offseason, so he's worth about as much as a dump in a paper bag. kerry wood could bring decent prospects if he keeps pitching ok, but i'm not sure that he wants to be traded, nor am i sure that the cubs will want to trade him after he signed with them at a discount in the offseason.

Holy God, how many times are you going to inexplicably bring up the idea of trading Wood? He obviously was signed here on the cheap to finish his career as a Cub. There's practically zero chance the front office moves him no matter how good an idea it is.

I see I didn't miss much in this game. Hopefully Dempster can deliver a strong outing today.

For those who watched, how did Wells look?

Hes struggled at times, but he really hasnt been pitching like a guy whose at the end of his career, and unless he wants to give us another massive home town discount, chances are he'll be pitching elsewhere next year anyway.
