As expected, the Chicago Wolves announced an NHL affiliation agreement Monday with the Vancouver Canucks that will run through the 2012-13 season.

The Wolves had a golden marketing opportunity when the Blackhawks were in the process of destroying their fanbase, now it seems like they may get another opportunity to be antagonistic.

we got a guy i really like with the pick we got for carter, so I'm pretty happy with that deal. the richards deal I'm not so sure about. depends on how good schenn turns out to be. with giroux, jvr, schenn, voracek and simmonds we are loaded with young forwards, but they need to take charge quickly.

apparently the montreal police are going to interview zdeno chara and then decide whether or not to press charges against him for the hit on max pacioretti. what a [expletive] joke.

IIRC, Pacieretti said recently he's moved on from the incident and he hopes the police just let it go.

Colin Fraser will be out for 4 months. Kings got him in Smyth trade and they are not happy.

on the other hand, we really don't care because colin fraser was going to play like 12 games for us anyway. the point was to get smyth off the books. the oilers lying or even not knowing about his injury history is just lame. but we really don't care either way.

literally everybody who isn't a rabid montreal canadiens fan hopes they will let it go.

i can only remember one nhl incident in recent memory being prosecuted, that being mcsorley's stick swinging incident against donald brashear. chris simon did way worse things than what chara did without the law getting involved (although i think that was investigated). chara's hit wasn't even a suspendable offense, let alone a clear intent-to-injure infraction.

long story short, montreal sucks.

Todd Bertuzzi I believed was actually charged for assault for his hit on Steve? Moore.

yes he was, in Vancouver if I remember correctly. I think it was dropped pending civil action.

i'm going to have an assault on Ken Holland for giving Ericsson $9.25M

trying to understand the scale here...

if Ericsson's worth 9M+ and Ehrhoff's worth 40M, then Yandle's worth 723M and Doughty 11.2B, i think

lol

i am starting to think the flyers got a bargain by giving 95 year old jaromir jagr $3.3 million

Versteeg traded for the 90th time in the last year and a half. Going to Florida

Why the hell is Tallon trying to bring every single non-core Hawk to his team? They are going to have more Stanley Cup Hawks than we will.

I have the feeling the Wings will miss the playoffs for the first time in forever next year. I think the Wings should have let Ericsson test the open market and then resigned him for 2million

by contrast the Wings just signed a possible top 4 dman(Ian White) for 2.75M for 2 years. Ericsson is not the only dman who has gotten way overpaid in the last couple of days, but the rest of the guys who have been overpaid will probably not be a healthy scratch 10+ times this season. 2days later and I am still just perplexed by the overpayment for Ericsson

God I love our off-season. Would have loved BRichards but Gagne makes us a little more flexible going forward/gives us no reason to not re-sign Doughty, Martinez, Richardson, and Trevor Lewis. All very necessary moves.

I'm also pretty sure Detroit is still a playoff team. Hard to argue against Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, and Lidstrom. Also reasonably sure Phoenix will slide out of the picture and Dallas will miss again. Mike Smith/Jason Labarbera might be the worst goaltending duo in the NHL next year. Smith could pan out but it's a huge risk. NOt really a believer in Colorado, that defense is still porous. Not a big fan of St. Louis but they should compete for the 8th spot at least. Same for Columbus.

Washington had a pretty great couple of days.

St. Louis hasn't done anything this week, short of keeping Oshie for another year. They have a good, young group of forwards. Not real high on their defensive group. I see them as a possible 8th seed contender IF they don't have injuries.

On the other hand, Columbus has done quite a bit to get better. They aren't ready for much more than a toe-dip in the playoffs, but they are on the right track.

Detroit will be fine. Right now, I'd peg the 8 playoff teams (not in this order) as Vancouver, Chicago, Detroit, San Jose, LA, Columbus, Calgary and St. Louis.

As for the Panthers situation, Tallon had to spend money. I haven't looked, but I think he's gone quite a bit beyond just hitting that floor. Really upgraded their D. But I have to think that team is losing a ton of money, and it will only get worse unless that team has a great start and a deep playoff run. And I don't think anyone thinks that is likely, even with all the new faces.

I still like Nashville more than Columbus and St. Louis both. I don't believe in what Columbus is doing at all, but I'm not the biggest Carter fan. Especially since, IMO, they need a play making center with Nash. Carter is much more of a goal scoring center. Wisniewski is a decent signing, although obviously overpaid. They still don't have a goalie (why weren't they in on Vokoun???), and I don't care for Scott Arniel at all.

Of course as I say that about Nashville, they trade Cody Franson for Brett Freaking Lebda. What a stupid trade, I don't care if they need to clear salary or whatever.

Interesting trade between the Sharks and Wild. Heatley for Havlat. Havlat is a solid player but has trouble staying healthy (except last year). Heatley is probably the better player but declined last year and hasnt performed in the playoffs as a Shark. Good for the Sharks for shaking things up, first with Burns and now Havlat.
