Is it assumed that Illinois is going "young" with their next coach?

 

what do you mean by young?

 

gregg marshall is shooting up my list and is now firmly planted at #2. he doesn't have far to go to supplant shaka in the top spot. but marshall is almost 50 and so is grant. those guys would be safer bets and less likely to leave.

 

but being young certainly helps out on the recruiting trail.

Young vs. someone like Lon Kruger, Bob Huggins, Ben Howland, etc. Young basically = someone who hasn't coached at a major D1. Obviously, someone like like Davidson's coach, or even Jim Laranega, would fall into old. But I'm doubting they go that route.

I like Marshall a lot, seems like someone who would be able to recruit enough to win with his ability. A very smart and dedicated coach.

 

I'm still not 100% sold on Shaka, although I would be happy with him.

 

Buzz Williams would probably be my #1. Is Leonard Hamilton considered a good coach?

He's solid, imo, but I don't think LH is the kind of guy who can take a program to the next level. He's pretty good at building programs.

I can't decide if I want Iowa to win by 20 today or be down by like 14 with 3 minutes left, have a crazy comeback and then have Gatens hit a 3 at the buzzer to rip their hearts out. Only the 3 should be banked in or roll and bounce around the rim for 5 seconds after the buzzer. And as much as I'd like to see it be Gatens, it should be Cartwright and is 19% 3P percentage. There should also be 3 John Shurna turnovers down the stretch along with 5 missed free throws.

Frank Martin will probably go to jail for killing one of his players on the court one day, but all things considered I don't know if he's clearly worse than any candidate out there, save for Stevens.

Martin ball would be well suited to the Big 10. He's recruited okay to KSU, considering that town is an absolute dump. It should be a lot easier to recruit to UI. He'd need some Chicago connections on his staff.

He'd appease those who wanted a minority as well. You'd have to pay to keep Jerrance, but I think that could be done. Assuming he doesn't take the SIU job. That said give me Smart, Marshall, or Grant.

Woo hoo! Good job NU. I still think they need at least 2 wins next week to get in and 3 to feel somewhat secure. If they win one, they will probably be bounced by some mid major loser that jumps into the at large field.
