Based on the last couple pages of people bashing each other to death, one need not check the score to know we lost.

Crimeny, are you really wanting to do this? You want me to elaborate on how if someone says that "Starlin Castro could hit 30 HR with an old man's cane" after a good play that it's an exclamation for the effort of providing wit or humor to the community, enhancing the enjoyment for all involved in the thread? You want me to elaborate on how the repeated "that happens to 1 out of 30 teams in baseball" or "only the Cubs" is selfish, reactionary nonsense that only serves to irritate all involved in the thread with the absurdity of their short-sightedness? We started down this tangent in an effort to clarify why we have game threads in the first place, it wasn't meant to be an adversarial thing. But if you're going to continue to ignorantly try to play logic detective in order to somehow justify the type of comments I was condemning, and arrogantly try to prop yourself up after having the topic explained to you, there's going to be an issue.

There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

But he was predicting 2011, where he was being negative about the future outcome of this season. That's all I'm saying.

I've proven my point. I'm done.

Is the fact that Jake is a fan of the most pathetic sports franchise over the past 20 years the reason we allow him to come here and openly root for his team in our game threads? I'm positive we wouldn't allow Cards, White Sox, or Brewers fans to do the same.

Considering this conversation was exhausting for me to read, I'd imagine that yes, it was that hard.

Yeah, because there aren't any Cards, White Sox or Brewers fans on the boards...

Jake's a cool guy. I don't mind him being around.

This seems like a silly complaint. I agree that it's weird, but if he's not trolling, is it a big deal?

EDIT: I'm not trying to interject; I just find message board protocol hilarious.

This is true. But I think CBM is on to something. I remember that reds44 dude didn't seem too bad until the Reds started getting decent. now I assume he's banned or he considers the Cubs an irrelevant enough rival to avoid coming here and posting.

But Jake is especially good and willing to make fun of his team and his fandom enough that a pro-pirate comment at the Cubs expense here and there is allowed.

The Pirates look decent enough, but they aren't going anywhere with that infield defense. Worst defense I've seen since game 2 of the 08 division series. We could have swept the series if we simply too advantage of their numerous miscues. How many GIDPs did Cedeno or Walker bobble on Friday and end up with 1 or 0 outs? Then Sunday they pretty much asked us to tie it when their miscue turned a potential DP (right?) to Castro on 3rd with 1 out. Even on Saturday, they made a key error that really set up that 5 run inning that prevented them from sweeping us.

Yes, Jake chiming in here and there during the game is far worse than those who completely take over the game threads with their own personel arguements.

Yeah, because there aren't any Cards, White Sox or Brewers fans on the boards...

Most of the fans on here of those 3 teams seem to be fairly respectful when their team is playing the Cubs. Not saying Jake is meaning to be disrespectful, but it's not unusual for fans to get annoyed when a fan of the opposing team cheers through posting at crucial moments of the game.

I'm not talking about just posting in the thread, I'm talking about the cheering after the Walker grand-slam on Opening Day, or the McCutchen homer later that game. I guess I consider it disrespectful, maybe you guys don't. But what I do know is that if it was a Cardinals fan it would have generated a reaction from the Cubs fans here.

But obviously Jake has been around here pretty long and has earned respect, which is great. I really haven't been here long enough to know that.

If ElCaballo or wolf started cheering for their teams doing well against the Cubs, I don't honestly know what would happen. I don't think they'd get banned immediately because they've earned that benefit of doubt, they might get a PM from a mod though. Whose to say Jake hasn't received any messages from mods?

Yeah that's true. I certainly don't think he or anyone else should be banned for it. But I always just thought it was sort of an unwritten rule that you don't openly cheer against a team on that team's message board. Maybe not.

Yeah, but your point was ass and can only be proven through madness.

And I have no idea why you only focused on road games. Derwood was talking about how the Pirates won around 20% of their total victories last season against the Cubs.

Depends on how trollish they are and, yeah, whether or not people like them. People like Jake. People don't like fans of other teams who aren't like Jake. Besides, it would be pretty rude to give Jake the boot when the Cubs fans being complained about sound like trolls for other teams. Seriously, picture that "only the Cobs" garbage coming from someone named "CardsLover4Ever." That's probably the best way to explain why that [expletive] grates on so many people: it sounds like what someone trolling for another team would say trying to piss off Cubs fans.

Wow, are you really so desperate to get the last word in that you have to dredge this up? It's done. It's over. Everyone has said everything there is to say. Do what the Beatles said, and Let it Be.

If you don't want to reply then just go away, but I'm still going to point out how you inexplicably brought up only the Pirates' wins at Wrigley last year in response to a question where I clearly asked how many games did the Pirates win over the Cubs last season.
