Well, we have win number 1 under our belts. Tomorrow, weather permitting will be the Cubs opportunity to climb above .500 for the first time since the pre Starlin Castro era. To make it happen, they'll have to go through another mediocre Pirates pitcher, Ross, or maybe its Russ..no, its Ross Ohlendorf.

Dont have his stats on hand, but hes not a particularly good pitcher by Major League standards. Hopefully we dont make him look like an ace.

for the Cubs, it will be the Wrigley Field debut of Matt Garza, who was hopefully just masking his best stuff and working on things during spring training

Soriano should have a good day. Also, don't be surprised if DeWitt starts.

Cubs today per Miles:

Castro

Barney

Byrd

Aram

Pena

Soto

Soro

Colvin

Garza

Barney starting didn't bother me nearly as much when he was hitting 8th. Oh well. Win anyway, Cubs.

I am not bothered by Barney in the lineup although batting 2nd seems odd. I am bothered with Fukudome on the bench and Marlon Byrd in the starting line-up batting 3rd. Fukudome has been on base 4 times in 7 plate appearances and he doesn't play. I understand the people above Quade want Colvin to play, but why at the expense of Fukudome? As the season moves on, I hope Byrd and Soriano produce at a level that deserves playing time, but if they struggle Quade needs to be willing to sit them like he is doing to Fukudome now.

I'd like to know what Byrd has done in his career that has made Cubs management think he is an impact player?

Not that I agree with the move, but look at the match-ups I posted. I think Fukudome is sitting because of his numbers against Ohlendorf.

Absolutely hate Barney in the 2 and I've mentioned several times before that Byrd has no business as the 3. Hopefully Quade figures that out soon.
