Whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy was Pena bunting?

To keep the shift honest. It took a flawless play to beat him by half a step.

On a day like today though, with the weather questionable, they need to put some runs up early because there's a definite possibility of a rainout.

I hope it was worth it, davearm.

Judging from what someone was saying yeterday, he likes to bunt to third base when they put the shift on against him. Supposedly he's pretty good at doing it. I'd rather him put one in the seats but it was a nice bunt.

Because a good amount of the time that would've resulted in a hit and it eventually might actually get teams to stop using that ridiculous shift?

why would you even throw soriano an 0-2 fastball? just bounce a curveball and be done with it

this will be a long year with darwin barney and marlon byrd batting 2-3.

what the [expletive] is quade thinking?

Barney is gritty and gritty must mean speed and playing the game the right way. Hence we have Darwin in the 2 spot.

No more benefit of the doubt for Quade. Screw him.

Hasn't stopped them so far, so I'm not sure why they'd stop now. Just hit the [expletive] ball.

There are some times when attempted bunts make sense. Mitchel Lichtman has a really good chapter about bunting in The Book. My guess is that the Pena bunt is one he'd approve of in the circumstances.
