I am loving Castro at the plate, though. That kid is gonna be a force to be reckoned with. And to think he's only going to get better from here!

I do agree that he has some work to do on his decision-making in the field, however.

Shut up, I'm allowed to complain in the heat of the moment even though it isn't a big deal. That's what game threads are for.

Why would you think that?

Um, perhaps because that's what they've always been for? Ski was by far not the only one complaining about the Cubs today.

No, not even a little bit. Game threads are for discussing the game, not saying things you know aren't true/are exaggerated just because you're annoyed.

But saying things you know aren't true/are exaggerated because you're happy and excited is ok then.

Got it. Double standard in effect.

Of course. One is great and the other is awful.

Well, you can't go all year without an extremely frustrating bad-beat like this. Glad to get it out of the way so we wont have to deal with any more like that.

This made me feel slightly better, thanks.

Why can't we play Fuk or Colvin in CF. Byrd is not a full time starter..

Disagree, I think Byrd's a full time starter just not a #3 hitter.

This. Ramirez and Pena should be the 3-4 hitters. Id be OK with Byrd as the 5 or 6 hitter, maybe even 2. the 3 spot is supposed to be your best all around hitter. Any team whose best all around hitter is Marlon Byrd need not plan to play baseball in October.

I have no idea where the idea came from that Byrd isn't a starter. He clearly is, and can be very productive, but he has no business hitting 1-5 on this team.

There is a difference between complaining and "Only the Cubs" BS.

Game threads are to talk about the goings on of the game. Sometimes these games can get very frustrating, thus venting is going to happen. I remember a few years back when this same discussion happened, and the more "level headed" posters weant off to start their own private game chats on AIM or Yahoo chat or whatever. Of course, they all returned here in the long run. People are going to vent. Sometimes the only the Cobs and woe is us talk can get as frustrating as the game itself. Then again, sometimes those who dont like the venting and refuse to ignore it and thus attack every venting session can be equally frustrating.

Just one of these things has to be different for us to at least be in extra innings:

-The Pena double is instead a grand slam, like it would have been in any other ball park.

-The Pirates don't get that dinky single in the 9th.

-Soriano or Soto gets the run in after Pena hit the double

-Byrd actually drives the ball to get the run in in the 9th

And other stuff that probably would have helped. But of course, everything goes perfectly against the Cubs and we lose. I try to be rational and not believe in any curses, but after dealing with this [expletive] time and time again, I need something to blame. God [expletive] damnit.

Soto or Soriano should have knocked the run, but Ramirez should have scored on the double. He should have been standing on 2nd when the ball hit the wall and scored easily.

And no, I'm not saying he doesn't hustle.

Ramirez is dead to rights at 1B if he does that and Jones catches the ball. I can't fault him for not scoring there.

I think he could get back on a ball to the wall.

Just 1 poster said it. The general consensus is like you said, hed be a great 6-7 hitter, maybe 5.

One begats the other. We shouldn't have to tolerate awful, awful meatballs.

Hrm... if only there were some sort of feature one could employ to ignore those awful, awful meatballs.

They did? I seem to remember game threads routinely being over 60-70 pages. This game thread would have probably been the lowest posted game thread of the season in 2004.

I agree. Modzilla isn't employed nearly enough.

Yeah, I was in some of those AIM chats and a good deal of the people I remember regularly being in them don't post in game threads hardly ever anymore.

also helpful - not quoting the meatballs so that those of us who have them foe'd don't have to read their garbage.

It is the inherent flaw in the ignore system that effectively renders it all but useless.

This was typed with a straight face. Think about that for a second, everyone.

But can you not also simply ingnore a post or poster without even having them on a foes list? Its possible to read a post you dont like or agree with and just glance right over it. Its not like someones texting it straight to you.

And yes, like someone said, peope do exaggerate during these games and say things they really dont mean. Ill be the first to admit Ive said some crazy [expletive] in the midst of a Cubs meltdown or frustrating game, and later look back on it and think to myself what the [expletive], did I really say that. Same basically goes when your watching the game with your buddies or at a bar. People can go a bit overboard.

And those people are meatballs who belong in Lord Sulley's gulags. Now THAT is some hyperbole.

Actually, that should be the challenge: the meatballs have to go all out. There's no point in getting them to change their meatball-y ways because, let's face it, they're hopeless, filthy creatures of habit, so let's go the opposite way and see them take their meatballiness to outrageous new meatball levels. Let's see some gusto, meatballs! Stop being sad sacks wallowing in the same woe is me cliches every time. Remember when people pledged to inject an insane amount of heroin into their forehead on Jim Hendry's doorstep? THAT'S what they should be striving for! If you're a meatball, go all out and meatball it the [expletive] up like nobody has ever meatballed before, because God knows you won't accomplish anything else.

I also submit that a poster should automatically be banned if they have been foe'd at least 20 times. I will take the bullet if necessary to institute something so awesome.

Hey, if someone has managed to piss of that many different people (or inspired collusion to get them banned) then they're practically begging for it.

Yes, I realize the potential irony.

Think that one through for a second. Why might people not care about exaggerated happiness when things go well but be upset about exaggerated negativity when things go bad?
