i made some odd picks, but where is this athletics love coming from?

They are going to have one of the best rotations and bullpens in baseball and their offense should/could be good enough to get it done also the play in a average-bad division. I think the Rangers will have a down year from last year, they rely on guys who have issues staying healthy (Hamilton, Cruz, Kinsler) and they had a lot of young pitchers see a spike in IP last year due to their deep playoff run and that could lead to their SP's regressing/not being as effective.

The thing I really dont get is how many people chose the Braves over the Phils. Braves definitely are a good young team, but have their share of question marks such as Tommy Hanson and the health of Chipper Jones and Tim Hudson. Even without Utley and Lidge, that Phillies rotation is just tough to beat, and when June-July roll around, and Utley isnt back yet, they'll go out and get what they need. Who knows, maybe Aramis Ramirez would fit them nicely.

their payroll is $162 million, how much more money do you think they have to throw around?

Mine is just a gut feeling based on the injuries and the age of their offensive regulars.

32,31,32,32,35,38,23. Those are the ages of their expected offensive regulars (once Utley and Brown come back). While most of them are still young enough to mostly be in their prime, they are still at the age where decline and injuries are not that uncommon.

We'll see. It's mostly a gut prediction based on how everyone loves the phillies this year despite a shaky offense.

Here's a fun game: Find a Phillie you can pretty much guarantee an .800+ OPS for this year, especially if Utley doesn't come back. I'll start: Ryan Howard.

I'm going with UK

Except switch the Giants and Rockies and Red and Brewers, and I think the Giants are a good bet to win 100 games. Also, I think Boston wins the WS.

Going into Last year how many Giants did you think you could name?

the phillies will have to win with pitching, and they will as long as they stay healthy, because their SP are awesome.

but TT is right, their offense doesn't look nearly as strong on paper as it has in recent years, because werth is gone, utley is hurt, rollins just isn't that good any more and ibanez is aging (albeit pretty gracefully).
