"At the very end, somebody took a dump right where I stood in the dugout every day," Baker said. "That was the low point. The grounds crew guy cleaned it up. He said, 'Oh, I think it's dog crap.' I said, 'No it ain't. That's human crap.' "

But it bothers him that some baseball observers continue to criticize his handling of pitchers, given the injuries that befell Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. He said the team “didn’t have the personnel” to win in the second half of his four-year tenure, citing injuries to stars Aramis Ramirez (2005) and Derrek Lee (2006).

“It really hurt my reputation,” Baker said. “Ever since then, all of a sudden, ‘I don’t know how to manage. I don’t know how to handle pitchers. I don’t like young players.’ … They don’t even have a clue about it. I never heard that in San Francisco.

“I was one of the top managers around, supposedly, and then all of a sudden I don’t know (expletive), know what I mean? They (the critics) were always looking for something critical, ever since I went there (to Chicago).”

The first quote left me with a slight feeling of sympathy for Dusty. The second quote came along and set that feeling on fire. Makes me really excited for the Reds to plexi-glass back down to 3rd or 4th place this year.

Man, if you can motivate someone to [expletive] in your spot then I don't feel sorry for you at all. You have to REALLY piss people off to inspire that kind of response.

Felt the same way there for a couple of seconds. He was a great manager as long as that talent he had stayed together or were not injured.

I don't know whether to laugh or be disgusted at that quote.

This is true. Either you have inspired hatred from a real jerk or you yourself are a real jerk if people are [expletive] on you or near you, or at you.

I don't believe that happened at all. If we're able to find out the exact time Sammy Sosa left the clubhouse, someone would have discovered that human feces was in the "exact spot" where Dusty stood during games.

More woe is me crap from the master of excuses.

Seems like he still harbors some bad feelings for Chicago. He should concentrate on the Reds as I don't see them running away with the Central again this year.

Especially after he uses Arroyo in relief in the 17th inning of an early season game.

We need a ruling: is this more or less negative a message than choosing to use a position player as a reliever instead of a starting pitcher after the bullpen is depleted?

That made my day. Someone [expletive] in Dusty's spot? LOL.

I mean no one deserves that, but the fact that Dusty claims that happened wow.

Honestly, I believe this story just as much as I believe that kids at school were saying racist things to Milton Bradley's kid (or whatever that story was).

This is why was can't win the world series, because our fans are too busy taking dumps in the Cubs dugout.

And then the second quote. [expletive] 6 years later this jackass is still bitching about not having his horses. STFU. The absense of Derrick Lee had nothing to do with you allowing the 2nd most runs in the NL that year. You had plenty of horses in 2004, actually probably the most horses the Cubs have ever had in 100 years, and you ran that team right into the ground.

From a Marine in Da Nang: "[Dusty Baker] sucks the sweat off of a dead man's balls." I have no idea what that means, sir, but it seems very negative to me.

no he was not a great manager and he was responsible for injuring some of his pitchers.

I will never forget watching Dusty throw away the last week of the 2004 season. For this and many other reasons, he is probably my least favorite person ever to be involved with MLB.

He is right about one thing, the critics in Chicago are pretty bad. However, as a professional he should be able to handle the criticism and teach his team how to handle it as well. Stop making excuses.

Moises Alou. He was a player who exemplified the Dusty victim attitude. I irrationally hate him as much as, if not more than Dusty.

How awesome is it that there's an Alou reference and a peeing in strange places reference in the same thread and they are relatively unrelated?!
