Harang confirms that Dusty did indeed screw his career by sending him on a suicide relief assignment in San Diego back in 2008.

And now, Harang finally admits that relief outing is what derailed his career. Now a Padre, Harang is attempting to recapture the magic of days old, but Dusty Baker's bizarre pitching decisions may have claimed another victim.

"What it did," Harang said of the relief appearance to the San Diego Union-Tribune, "is fatigue me beyond the point of recovery. I started to change my arm angle to compensate for the fatigue and that’s when my forearm started to bother me.

Yeah, I remember thinking at the time that this could be one of those "Dusty ruins another one" type situations. Guess it was.

Yup same here. It was something like an 18 inning game and everyone starting joking on this board that harang's career is about to be ruined. And not surprisingly it was. I'm pretty surprised he went public with that though, considering he's still an active pitcher and unless he doesn't make the team will surely cross Dustys path again.

What's Dusty going to do to him? Have Miguel Cairo charge the mound?

I'm actually surprised it's taken this long for someone to come out and say that, to be honest with you. With as many arms as Dusty has ruined it was just a matter of time before someone spoke out.

why don't we just change extra inning games? it's not like anyone actually likes sitting through 10 scoreless innings to see a run finally scored against the 15th pitcher used in the 7th hour of a game. give the teams like 2-3 extra innings and if they don't have a winner by then, it's a tie.

I love long extra inning games and all the roster decisions that come with it. In fact, I'll turn on a random game that I wasn't interested in before if I see that the game is in the 13th-15th inning.

I also hate ties so IMO this suggestion would be horrible. And I think most fans would agree with me when comparing two All-Star games. The 14 inning game a couple years ago was considered one of the best ever. Meanwhile, the tie in the 2002 All-Star game was met with outrage.

What the [expletive] is wrong with you?

either put in your mop-up guy and let him pitch until his arm falls off - and if it does, who really cares - or put in a utility player and have him pitch until you lose. those should be your options as manager. unless you're an idiot, in which case you put one of your best starting pitchers in and let him throw a bunch of pitches in relief in a next-to-meaningless game.

Considering that the game, even in May, was between the two worst teams in the NL, there was a lot of stupidity flowing in that extra inning game (Volquez pitched two innings in relief as well, and some Padre pitcher tossed 4 innings after having started the day before).

The 12-step program can coincide with the 12 months of recovery following the inevitable TJS.

"HI, my name is Mark." The room say, " HI MARK!" Mark continues: " Ahh, my friend Kerry (gesturing to a somber Kerry Wood) told me I should come to this meeting." Like many of you I was ruined by Dusty" Mark begins to cry, Aaron Harang comes to console him, " I know, I know it is hard but I to am a recent member."

I want a novelized version of this, please.

This is BS. One 60 pitch game isn't going to ruin his career. How many times have people done that in history without getting hurt? Too many to count.

i remember when he came in that game and how i laughed at how absurd it was. then i laughed even harder when i saw him make his next start on pretty much regular rest

Not really true. He started on 5/22, pitched in relief on 5/25, and then started on 5/29, and only threw like 73 pitches in the start afterwards.

well, i guess you would know better than the guy who was actually throwing.

I'm just gonna throw this out there. What if this isn't about one 60 pitch game? What if that's just the straw that broke the camels back? What if, he was already used and abused, and putting him out there for "one 60 pitch game" was a bad idea, whether he ended up with a career injury or not?

That was week six of Dusty in Cincinnati. Not month six. He wasn't abused by Baker. In fact he in all three years prior to Dusty he had a higher NP/GS than he did for Baker. Not to mention 230 IP.

Sour grapes and bad experiences. Harang and baker never got along.
