I think the defense is better going into this season. I think the special teams is better going into this season.

A large part of the reason why the Bears special teams has been an advantage is because of their return game. The value of that has been decreased due to rules changes on kick offs and they are without Manning, one of their best returners who helped take the load off of Hester. They may have a better punter, but that improvement is going to be incremental at best, and I doubt it overshadows the relative decline in advantage they've had from the return game.

IIRC, Knox made the Pro Bowl 2 years ago as a returner. But the rules changes are the biggest thing to hurt the return game

Yes, I think he was added to the team as a returner in his rookie year. But his touches were significantly reduced last year as his role in the offense grew. Manning had a lot more returns last year and did a better job.

Bears family night cancelled.......because they "miscalculated" the field care over the last day, and seams opened up.

I read this as, basically, they didn't water the [expletive] field.

And they announced it too late for people to avoid the traffic nightmare of Chicago on a Friday night.

That is unreal. So you have maybe 30,000 people trying to drive in from the suburbs and when they get into the city have to fight off Lolla traffic, etc only to find out the park district doesn't care about probably their most important source of income.

You are right this is complete incompetence and an embarrassment.

Park district wants to do the field turf. The Bears have not agreed to let them.

I was under the impression the field district wants to keep natural grass because international soccer teams prefer it, and after the Bears, that's the next biggest source of income from Soldier Field.

They're sure making it sound like it's all on the Bears wanting to keep the grass.

At least announce early enough that you borked the watering with a few hours to spare. This had to be known before 6pm. Regardless of the point they're trying to make, if that's what is happening.

Can they just lay down field turf already? It's getting embarrassing.

Hire an outside firm to do it. And maintain it. I don't think this current bunch has a clue what they're doing, field turf or grass, or bare dirt.

I'd be fine with turf, but other northern cities seem to maintain grass fine. Bears are at a disadvantage in sharing their field, but still.

Doesn't Green Bay have some hyrbid turf? Its like real grass with artificial stuff in it to help it hold up. Maybe thats a solution to look into as well.

This is really disappointing. What a bum.

Kreutz has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Saints.

I don't know what he was thinking but if he really did love playing for the Bears as much as he said he did he either played his hand really bad on this one or his agent gave him bad advice, probably both. He winds up having to leave the team to get less money than he would have received to stay.
