At this time last year I really feared we had lost that trade with Denver, but this year has been a different story. So far not much has come out of the two 1st-rounders and 3rd-rounder we traded them except for a guy named Robert Ayers (2009 1st-rounder) who so far has been a huge bust. They traded down with the other picks we gave them, but I don't believe any of those guys have made much of an impact thus far, although I could be wrong.

Now Orton has lost his starting job, which is partially due to injury, but his last two games were nothing short of horrible. Then throw in the fact that he was 3-10 as a starter this year (whether it's his fault or not) and you have a benched quarterback.

The Bears on the other hand seem to finally have their franchise QB after he sent almost everyone into panic by falling well short of expectations in 2009, a problem that was solved largely by hiring a real offensive coordinator. In addition, we got our #1 WR (even though he's not a legit #1) in Knox with that 5th-rounder from Denver.

So looking back on it now, the trade looks pretty damn good. What a difference a year makes.

well, he made the lions offense respectable for a little while and he had nothing to work with in san fran until that crazy [expletive] got hired and you can't really hold it against someone for not getting along with someone as insane and irrational as singletary. in fact, i think it's awesome that singletary got rid of him, if he hadn't, i might not like him as much.

with the bears he actually has the perfect situation: a good quarterback and an old friend head coach that allows him a certain comfort level. martz has been caught on many occasions smiling. even when cutler makes an inexplicable throw, he doesn't get all red-assed.

the coaching staff looks kind of like a family, i hope they keep it together for a while. granted, it's easier to smile about things when you're winning.

The fact that they are all failed head coaches makes me think it is more possible to keep them where they are, but if it takes a Lovie extension to guarantee they are back I'm all for it.

it's definitely a bonus that they are viewed as damaged goods and not likely to be hired as hc's anytime soon.

The long-anticipated battle between Cutler and Sanchez may not happen. Sanchez's shoulder injury seems to be a bit worse than previously thought and he'll likely be a gametime decision. Ryan still says Sanchez is 80% likely to play, but a day ago it was 99%.

LUCKY TEAM!

I hope the Bears get every single break they can. Who is their backup QB?

man i've listened to quite a few bears radio highlights lately. joniak/thayer are every bit as enjoyable to listen to as pat/ron. makes things a little easier, considering that thayer is young and in good health.

As a fan who's transitioned through the Brickhouse/Kupcinet, McConnell/Palmer (my favorites), Laravie/et.al, I can honestly say Joniak is the worst of the bunch. I like Thayer, but as a play by play man, Joniak is poor. His insistence on describing the play before stating out the outcome drives me nuts. When I'm stuck listening to him, I have to wait almost to the snap of the next play to find out it's 2nd and 5 or whatever. My belief is the play by play guy should state the play and the outcome and let the color guy then explain the details. I thought the Bears/WBBM went on the cheap to hire their news reader as the announcer instead of going out and finding a professional to take over. My neck hairs raise with his lame attempt to give out nicknames (Windy City Flyer?) or his signature Touchdown! Touchdown Bears! call. (On full disclosure, I also hate the stadium announcer's Timeout! Where?... call).

But, I seem to be in the minority on this board as several people seem to like him. But just know it's not unanimous.

you truly have a refined ear.

Who cares. He's the local radio homer. Nothing wrong with that.

At least he doesn't tryto make every play sound like it's the Super Bowl like Laravee.

if we loose on Sunday, and win in GB, are we automatically the #2 seed? if not, who else has to loose?

Philly and the Giants have to win one and lose one for the Bears to win one and lose one to get the #2 seed.

so they have the Vikings and Cowboys. not a good chance they loose one.

The Cowboys are still playing hard and are still a talented team and it's the last game of the season. Is it in Dallas? I could see the Cowboys winning over their rivals

Is Kellen Clemens really that bad that a clearly over the hill Mark Brunell is a better option?

did you watch hard knocks? he looks like a 7th-year senior frat guy who's still putting on 10 pounds of beer weight a year. i swear to god, he has to be the most unlikely looking football player in the league.

speaking of which, if you want to see unlikely, try and find tom brady's combine pics. he was in worse shape than the old farts i run pickup ball with.

so, i've been reading the ganggreen board a little bit. many of their fans think that peppers will, obviously, be a problem. but they also think that lining up a tight end on his side will help. however, they're not thinking that peppers lines up on both sides and that marinelli doesn't decide which side he will line up on, peppers does. there's no real rhyme or reason for which side it is. they think this is a good matchup for them, i disagree, at least on offense. on defense, they'll be tough, as always.

True. But Brunell has thrown 30 passes in like 5 years.

Here's a link to the Brady pics, thanks for the tip. It doesn't help that he looks all hungover and angry: http://bostonist.com/2008/01/03/zero_to_hero_to.php

I tried to find a Jared Lorenzen combine picture to show the most unlikely NFL QB ever. The 4th google result for "Jared Lorenzen combine pictures" is something I wish I would not have seen.

The NY Post is reporting that Sanchez will start on Sunday

Jets QB Mark Sanchez has made significant progress in his rebound from a slight cartilage tear in his throwing shoulder and will start Sunday afternoon's game against the Bears.

Rex Ryan today said that Sanchez is now listed as probable on the injury report, and threw the ball with much more velocity during the team's workout in Florham Park.

The Bears released tickets for the game this morning and there are still some available for those interested.
