Per Jerry Crasnick on Twitter:

The Giants and Cubs discussed a Rowand-for-Fukudome trade, said a BB source. A classic bad-contract, change-of-scenery deal. But it looks like a long shot. Rowand is still owed $24MM over 2 years with SF. Fukudome will make $13.5MM for the Cubs in 2011

Not only the money, but ... I'd rather not and keep Fuku.

So we trade Fukudome for someone who is much worse at baseball, isn't any younger, and has an 8 figure salary for an additional year? Where do I sign up?

Can we just spread a little love Fukudome's way and call it an offseason already? Ughh. Honor thy contract and let the poor guy go back to Japan with his tail between his legs already. Poor guy has been slapped around by this organization long enough.

Kosuke 2010 OPS: .809

Rowand 2010 OPS: .659

I see no positive to this trade whatsoever.

aaron rowand destroyed his face one time to catch a flyball. you can't put a price tag on that hustle and grit.

Good point. I should have taken that into consideration.

Why? There are no redeeming factors to this trade. Unless Hendry thinks we need more grit.

He is getting a guy that it makes sense to start Colvin in front of. That might be the goal – get a guy with a reputation for hitting for power and playing good defense and a guy who it's actually reasonable to start Colvin ahead of.

I have no idea if this is the slightest bit accurate, but if Hendry even considered this he should be fired. What a horrible trade proposal. Trade a good ballplayer with one year left for a bad ballplayer with two years left and you only save $1.5 mil per? Even if SF sent enough money to even that out, you're still basically trading a good player for a bad one. That's stupid.

However, as someone mentioned above, throw in Lincecum and I'll happily change that statement to a big thumbs up.

The Cubs must have been offered $6 or $7 million. Perhaps the Giants considered their World Series revenue to be found money and saw a way to improve their team.

I can't stand Hendry as much as the next guy on here, but this isn't something I'm worried about whatsoever.

I doubt it had much behind it, but hopefully Hendry didn't even consider it for long (or at all).

Given the financial constraints on the team, I can't imagine Hendry came up with this one, let along followed up on it.

He may not be that savvy, but even he knows basic math.

We should probably check with benchwarmer first.

I'm a little afraid this will be a save 4M this year(From the Giants kicking in money), to pay money next year to a really shitty player in Rowand.

Kosuke Fukudome for Aaron Rowand and Brandon Belt?

How about then?

6 years of Belt under team control will probably be worth more than Rowand's horrific 2012 salary.

Then again, why would the Giants give away a top prospect when they need help at the position?
