Did Fukudome die?

And no on Hudson. He's not anything special anymore, would cost more than he's worth and you don't want your leadoff hitter getting on base only 33 percent of the time.

While I think Hudson over Dewitt/Baker is a marginal improvement and not worth the salary difference, Hudson is closer to .350 than .330. I'd rather see whether or not Colvin can start rather than Fukudome, but I'm not in the frame of mind they'll win 81 next year.

Lance Johnson led off for a year or two for us didn't he?

I was always more of a Brian McRae fan, myself. He stole home once!

Yeah, I always preferred McRae too. While I hated to see McRae go, for some odd reason I thought we were getting Carl Everett back instead of Lance Johnson.

Can I just say how proud I am of this board right now?

And you all are high, Jerome Walton is the obvious choice.

McRae was a switch hitter, but he was completely atrocious from one side of the plate, and near the end of his Cubs tenure I thought he should have stuck to hitting from just his strong side of the plate. He was so bad from one side for so long I couldn't figure out why he kept sticking with it.

I hated Brian McRae for two irrational reasons

1) At a local charity function, at the peak of my baseball card collecting childhood, a silent auction was being held on a bunch of really great baseball cards. I had asked my Dad to put some bids on on some cards (An old Whitey Ford card worth $50 at the time was one of them). I figured it was in the bag... nope. Not for me. Not for anyone... because Brian McRae's wife came by and put down the max bid on EVERY [expletive] ITEM. So all these collectors can go to hell, rich Brian McRae's wife just stole everything out from under you for. Thanks.

2) The reason she was even at this event in the first place is because her sister, and McRae's sister in law, was my 2nd grade teacher... and she was a [expletive] evil, mean spirited, bitch

And this is why I hate Brian McRae. I know, I know...

WTF kind of auction has a max bid?

Dewitt, Jeff Baker, and or Koske are probably the more likely candidates. But I have seen Paul Sullivan, idiot, bandy about lineups with castro at the top. I think he profiles as the ideal two hitter so thats that.

More than anything, Im not content with the baker/dewitt platoon. It just seems so blah to me but the available free agents are comparable or worse. Secretly, I'm hoping Tony Thomas figures it out in spring training and takes second base but I'm betting he doesnt.

At any rate, Im not sure if we need a leadoff man other than what we have because the other options suck.
