this really is a disaster waiting to happen. the vikings have nothing, absolutely and literally nothing to play for so they'll have their dicks outs the whole game and if they get penalized into dust, it just helps their draft position. the concrete field delivers a nice slab to injure and maim.

i don't know how anyone can reason that the vikings are getting the short-end of the stick, here, they've already pissed away their season and are probably looking to kill some people with some dirty hits.

thank God we aren't playing a historically dirty and cheap-shotting packers team with nothing to lose. that would be worse.

I dont know if many of the Vikings have any beef with any of the current Bears other than Kreutz and Pat Williams. As much as I want to build up the Vikings and Packers players as gigantic douchebags, they aren't any different than any other NFL team. Maybe they don't have a lot to play for, but I doubt any of them are going out there trying to concuss somebody. They will probably play a little freer out there though, so we need to watch out for that.

we also need to stop pretending that the Bears/Vikings or Bears/Packers rivalries are as big as the Vikings/Packers rivalry.

The Bears/Packers rivalry is at least as big as the Vikings/Packers rivalry.

Never. Bears and Packers were rivals before Minneapolis was even a viable NFL market.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Packers/Bears seems to be the chief rivalry among Packers fans in the Milwaukee area and points south, and Packers/Vikings seems to be the biggest in most of the rest of Wisconsin. Although the Favre thing in recent years temporarily had Packers fans unite in their hatred for the Vikings.

Another weird NFL oddity that probably only interests me: the Raiders have a decent shot at going 6-0 within the division and still not make the playoffs.

I noticed that yesterday. That's really weird.

Good win for the Titans yesterday, I guess. That's the best we've looked since we were 5-2.

Now, we need the Colts and Jags to lose next week, the Jags to lose in two weeks and then the Indy/Tennessee game in 2 weeks would be for the division. I really hope that happens, because that'd be a really fun game to watch.

Tennessee is still alive? That's awesome. I'll be rooting for that scenario just for kicks.

The mediocrity of the AFC South has been overshadowed by the two western divisions.

Could you guys possibly be bigger [expletive] about this?

Yeah, I was just about to tell them to shut up about the AFC South, already.

EDIT: And by [expletive] I meant women's genitals.

I'm not gonna lie, I'd be willing to try, just to see how much more worked up you can get.

I honestly envision you repeatedly pounding your fist on your desk as you post these comments.

Inaccurate. I'm amused and excited for this game.

You pussies. Get out there and play some football. So the turf is a little rock hard. Back in the day, it was -30 degrees in December and we didn't have "heating coils" under the field. We used to dive head first off our benches into the ground without our helmets on just to get mentally warmed up for the game. Then they invented smelling salt and those [expletive] ass "doctors" said that slamming out heads into concrete wasn't good for your long term health. Screw long term health, I don't want to be 80...dem's the diaper years. I'd rather be brain dead during those days anyways, if not dead dead. Now get out there and play some football. And take off those damn shoulder pads, you told you to wear all that padding, your mommy?

NFC North 21.46

NFC East 21.00

NFC South 19.88

AFC South 19.88

As long as it's Cincinnati chili and I'm clothed, I'm ok with your day dream.

i like the qualifier there at the end.

Well some of us weren't around back then, so that doesn't count.

Just like the Cubs prior to 1988. That never existed.

every packer fan i know, and that's a lot, loves charles martin.

if a bears player took a run at rodgers after the whistle and injured him for the season and fucked up the rest of his career, and the bears failed to kick the guilty player off the team, i probably wouldn't be a bears fan anymore.

If either the Colts or Jags win another game, we're out. Even then, I'm not 100% certain that we'd win the tiebreakers over the Colts and Jags if they both lose out. The scenario where the Titans win out and the Colts and Jags lose out has all three teams at 8-8.

Actually, on second thought, I think we'd lose the tiebreaker even in that scenario. I believe the Titans/Jags/Colts would all be 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the division and would each have split head-to-head matchups. However, the Jags would be 7-5 in the AFC, Indy would be 6-6 and Tennessee would be 5-7. So I think the Titans are eliminated no matter what we do.

I just ran it on the playoff machine thingie and if the Titans won out and the Colts and Jags lost out, the Titans would in fact be division champs. It goes division record, common opponents, and then conference record I believe when determining divisional ties.

NFC South is pretty low for having 2 of the top 3 records in football, along with another above .500 team. Carolina is really bad though.

The last time the Vikings won an outdoor game in December or January in a cold-weather environment was a January 2005 playoff victory at Lambeau Field. The time before that? December 1999 at Giants Stadium.
