So, Texas may lose a boatload of coaches (including Applewhite now) and replace their OC and DC with Jim McElwain and Randy Shannon, respectively. In turn, Alabama could be replacing both their coordinators if Smart goes to UF and McElwain lands in Austin.

I've heard that Tuberville is no longer in play at Miami (of his own volition), but if he still is, that will cause some other changes around the south (Eddie Gran at FSU, for example.) Same with Mullen, if he gets the job. And with Malzahn likely leaving Auburn (for Vandy? Miss. St.? Texas Tech?), that's going to open up another coordinator job in the SEC.

RIchRod throwing his name into the mix just makes this a very intriguing offseason.

This would not be surprising as Mack Brown has been wanting to develop a power running game. But before all of this Harsin from Boise St or Applewhite were the two clear favorites. And the OL coach from Wisconsin in a lateral move who will probably be offered regardless of the OC.

I really wonder what this college football season would have been like with Meph around...

He's always been a big Auburn fan.

Most of Florida's losses were basically wins, so they actually won the Meph super-computer championship

Here we go again. Urban Meyer is reportedly stepping down as Florida's coach according to AOL FanHouse.

I have been saying this for weeks. Dan Mullen will be the guy at Florida if this happens, and I think Miami has killed themselves by not moving quickly enough.

Mullen to Florida, RichRod to Miam, Malzahn to Mississippi State. Book it.

Yep. Ohfer. Oh well... good thing I don't get much of my IRL identity wrapped up in things said on the internet, I guess.

I guess Golden got tired of waiting for the Penn State job to open up.

so Miami hired Temple's head coach and Florida hired a DC with no head coaching experience?

Temple didn't do a thing ever before Golden showed up. I think that's a pretty solid hire for Miami.

I don't think it's a bad hire. He's certainly a hot name. It's just not the sort of resume you expect for a tier 1 program. He's got 1 year at a top program (as a position coach), then a few years coordinating for Virginia and 5 years at Temple. Temple was crap before he got there and now they're winning 9 games a year. That's cool. But other than losing to PSU every year, what's he hanging his hat on? Beating UConn?

Could be a great hire for Miami. Again, he's got a reputation. But no big-time DC experience and only a few years as a HC at a terrible school where he can consistently beat bad teams and sometimes beat mediocre-to-decent teams. It just seems to me that he's missing a step. If Texas hired him as DC for 2 years or Kentucky hired him as HC, that would make complete sense to me. But HC at Miami right now? Just a little surprised is all.

Whitlock has been hammering the hire. He says Temple has the biggest budget in the MAC, he's never beaten a MAC team with a winning record and has had success because he's in a big city and able to take more questionable recruits than some other programs.

Seems a lot like Turner Gill to me. They were awful but then in his second year they moved to the MAC which has become terrible. Became a little less terrible, then had one good year and now took a step back this year when the MAC was again, awful.

Gus had not signed a contract with Vandy as of late last night...it does appear this is what Gus will do though. It's difficult to turn down 3 million a year even if it is career suicide. There are only a few Vandy head coaches that were still a head coach in their next job after leaving Vandy. Auburn was prepared to make him the highest paid coordinator in the country, but that doesn't compare to what Vanderbilt has offered.

Yeah, Golden may be a fine hire, but I don't think it's because of the success of his teams at Temple. The Gill comparison is pretty close. In fact, aside from Pinkel(who was thisclose to getting fired in 2005), there really haven't been a lot of success stories of MAC coaches getting hired to BCS programs.

Terry Hoepner at Indiana would have been...

Come on Andy, you know you want to respond about Gill
