okajima and delcarmen were good relievers not that long ago.

fred lewis is pretty much the ideal fourth outfielder but the cubs already have four.

john maine was a solid back of the rotation guy but his stuff was never that great, so if injuries have caused him to lose a little, then he's useless.

we could get our hands back on augie and donnie veal!

i wonder how much money russell martin will get. he'd be an ideal backup C for us. He could catch and spell Ramirez from time to time. There's also room for upside. we have too many catchers on the forty man to even think about it, unfortunately.

I'd love to get Russell Martin as a backup catcher, but that's probably pretty unlikely.

Edwin Encarnacion on the other hand, may be willing to go as low as a minor league deal. I'd love to stash him at Iowa in case of a Ramirez injury. At some point, it'd be nice to be able to call up an actual 3B instead of playing a backup 2B out of position.

I don't really see the point with Baker, Dewitt, and Barney around.

Andrew Miller might be worth a shot. He's still only 25 or 26, isn't he?

I would take a flier on him for sure. Maybe Rotshchild can fi...... aww crap.

Seriously though, I would take a chance on Miller. His performance will dictate a very cheap contract so it wouldn't be that much of a risk to give it a shot

Barney doesn't hit at all, and Baker can't hit righties. If Ramirez goes down for an extended time, we don't any backups that can even really approach replacement level production at 3B on a daily basis.

I had no idea Russell Martin was even a candidate to be somebody's backup.

Can anyone explain why Martin was cut? He seemed like he was going to be a mainstay in the Dodgers lineup. His OPS dropped sharply the past two years, but he still seemed a good player.

Too expensive already.

I wouldn't exactly say he was cut. They non-tendered him, right? He made $5m last year and I would assume he was going to look for a big raise this season. LA probably didn't want to spend that much of a guy who could be a declining catcher.

He wanted 5 mill again, but with a mill in incentives he could reach.

Delcarmen(wasnt he an uber-prospcet for the Red Sox a few years ago), Okajima, Jenks, Milledge, Maine, Church, Sherrill, and Wang are all flyer worthy.

And I see no harm in re claiming Donnie Veal for little to no cost, unless of course MacPhail has already pounced on him.

Has`Cust ever fielded a position at any point in his big league career?

What about a Fukudome/Diaz platoon, and ship off Colvin for a prospect, or included in a deal for AGonz (with whatever value he has). We'll have Jackson close to ready for 2012, we already have Byrd and Soriano under contract.

You can forget about Gonzalez.
