I would love for the Bears to fire Lovie and pick up Fisher even if they make the playoffs.

Ok, Bears fans really need to give that up.

I would not ever give up something that would make my team better. Fisher makes the Bears automatically better.

What has Fisher done that Lovie hasn't?

Is Jeff Fisher a better football coach?

I guess I would agree that he is, but it's also a good point that he hasn't done anything Lovie hasn't. They're both similar, conservative-style football coaches who have always seemed to come up a little short.

I hope the Bears go in a different direction than Lovie, but I don't know that Fisher would be where I would turn.

i don't see ANYTHING special about jeff fisher.

I can't think of one thing that Lovie does better than the average coach either.

How about this year where everybody was saying the Bears were going to be lucky to win 5 or 6 games, yet they're 8-3 through the 11 game mark?

Hey, at least the Monday night game between two 3-7 teams will be meaningful, because the winner is just a game out of first.

The average coach has them in the same place with the amount of talent the Bears have. Heck an average coach challenges the goal line call with Cutler against Washington and it probably wins them the game.

The average coach -- what is your definition of that?

I think the average coach might have lost the team in all the chaos that was happening earlier in the year.

Lots of these coaches experience their teams simply tuning them out, especially after a string of subpar years.

I'm not necessarily a Lovie fan, but you aren't giving him enough credit for where he has us right now. In-game challenges and time management aren't the only measure of a coach. Lovie shines more in his ability to institute a system and manage it at a higher level.

This year, it has worked.

Seriously though, Lovie has his flaws but there are not many coaches who generate a consistently high effort level like he does.

his team loves him and he's managed a bunch of former head coaches without drama. lovie is what he is: a fairly successful system head coach that players believe in and will go to war for.

i don't see how you can ask for much than that. his tenure has not been marked by a particular amount of incompetence. there have been mistakes but most of them have been corrected. if he gets his players on the field, they generally play well and win games.

On top of that, in his defense, he's not the guy who never drafts offensive linemen creating a huge weakness in the team.

And I think the bolded probably doesn't get mentioned enough.

A high school coach, yes. Not an NFL coach in a huge market with a storied franchise. Fine Lovie brings with him his system and the fact that players play hard for him. That makes his just an average coach which is what I have been arguing all along.

i really don't know what you expect. there are only a few truly remarkable coaches in the nfl, and i doubt that would have much more success with this team. this team is 8-3.

if you won't give lovie credit for the wins, you certainly can't hold losses against him.

That's why he's just blah. Super Bowl teams have fantastic coaches. I want a fantastic coach.

Do you consider Ken Whisenhunt, Bill Callahan, Tom Coughlin, Andy Reid, Mike Martz and Lovie Smith to be fantastic coaches, then?

So he's basically football's captain intangibles? Because (some of) his flaws are concrete as hell

Sorry I meant Super Bowl winning ones.

Wilf sure made it seem like Frazier is getting the job for good next year when he gave him the game ball and said he hoped this would be one of many wins for him.

Did they show that on tv somewhere?

i was just saying that if you don't give him credit for his wins, you can't hold his losses against him. it's unfair.
