I like the Bulls chances tommorrow night, if I'm not mistaken the Bulls have been pretty deadly in "make up games" this season. I know the Bulls kicked their asses shortly after they blew the 20 pt lead in Atlanta but, that was in Chicago. Tommorow night qualifies as the "make up" game.

Not only that but everybody got quite a bit of rest tonight as well. That should bode well for the second game of a back-to-back.

Great effort tonight after the first half of the Pacers game on Friday.

Congrats to Thibs for passing Tim Floyd on the all-time Bulls coaching wins list.

Funny as that is, the team that Floyd got to coach was a bit different than the team that Thibs has been blessed with.

That's not to diminish at all what Thibs has done, nor to provide an excuse for Floyd.

Sam Smith said the 91 Bulls would beat the 11 Bulls 10 games out of 10. While I think the 11 Bulls would possibly take a game or two from them, there are actually a few guys on realgm saying this current team would hang with them and keep the series close. One guy even FAVORABLY compared Deng and Pippen as a wash.

Possibly?

Really?

First, for the most part, the joke is that most of the RealGMers are acting like saying that 10/10 or 9/10 is about right.

Can we stop acting like that team was invincible?

Saying they'd lose 10/10 is pretty bad. Saying the current team would POSSIBLY take a game or two is almost as bad.

The 91 team won 74% of their games against the whole league. The current Bulls are a title contender. Not league average.

I mean what in the hell planet do we live on where people think it's reasonable to expect ANY team to win 10/10 games in any scenario, much less 10 games vs. an elite (likely 60 win) team?

Do people not understand probabilities at all (granted, in small sample sizes anything can happen, but we're talking about expectation)?

Ok, but the 1996 team was invincible. I can't be convinced otherwise.

Yeah, the 90-91 Bulls finished right around where this Bulls team will finish up: first in conference and second in the league. They swept a terrible 8 seed, won 4 of 5 against a Philly squad very comparable to this year's Philly squad, swept a Pistons team about as good as this year's Hawks, and then won 4 of 5 against a Lakers team comparable to this year's Lakers. Hardly invincible, and in a conference with few really good teams (Boston went 56-26 to finish second in the East, every other team is worse than this year's top 5) they swept through fairly comfortably.

Even that 90-91 team probably doesn't beat those Pistons 10 times out of 10, and they'd be a potential 5 seed in this year's East.

NBA Network played game 6 of the 1998 finals the other night. I had a blast watching that...well...except for Costas doing pbp. Yeesh.

Wait 91 Bulls? Not the 95-96 Bulls with 72 wins?

I think it would be pretty competitive. Pippen/Deng actually isn't very far off if we are talking 1991 Pippen. Especially since Pippen was better every other year in a Bulls uniform after that year (still very good that year). Boozer's probably better than Horace. Noah's better than Cartwright. Rose would run circles around Paxson and Armstrong. Of course, Jordan vs. the Bulls current 2s would be probably a bigger mismatch than all of these combined.

7 game series, 91 Bulls win 4-2 or 4-3.

You can't just look at the records, the matchups heavily favor the '91 team. The '91 team could put Pippen or Jordan on Rose. And no one on the current team could come close to guarding Jordan (Brewer is probably the best bet). If you put the rules in place that you have now, '91 Jordan is unstoppable. Grant could handle Boozer, while Boozer could most certainly not handle Grant. And Paxson was a legitimate NBA basketball player, so he has an edge over Bogans. Today's team would most likely take a few games, but I'd pick the '91 team every time.

No freaking matchup argument you can come up with will convince me that any team short of the dream team would be expected to beat the current Bulls team 90-100% of the time.

Even the '11 Celtics?

Pippen/Deng actually isn't very far off if we are talking 1991 Pippen.

I really like Deng, but they're still pretty far off. The scoring and scoring efficiency is about the same (17.8 ppg on 14.1 shots for Pippen, 17.7 ppg on 14.4 shots for Deng), but everything else is off. Pippen outrebounded Deng (7.3 to 5.5), out-assisted him (6.2 to 2.8), out-stole him (2.4 to 1.0) and out-blocked him (1.1 to 0.6). Deng turns it over a bit less, but he doesn't handle the ball nearly as much as Pippen did.

And those are just counting stats. Lu is a really good defender, but I don't think anyone should compare him to Pippen defensively. Really, I don't think too many players in NBA history should be compared to Pippen defensively.

I'm really struggling to see how Boozer is better than Grant as well.

The fact that he's better at every single thing that doesn't involve defense (and one thing that is a big part of defense - rebounding)?
