just noticed that the next one after those three I listed is @ Min.... Anything can happen, but shouldn't have too much trouble going 4-0

And then @ Detroit and a home game at Toronto after that.

Yeah, they'd have to lay an egg to lose any of their next 6 (not that they haven't done that before). Last 6 will be interesting (home vs. Phoenix/Boston, @Cleveland/Orlando/NY Knicks, vs. NJ), but if 3-3 gets them to 60 wins, they should be able to reach it.

Question is, will 60 wins be enough to win the East?

Ok, so 9/10 now.

Nah, Jordan would have had a "shrug the shoulders" game to combat Rose last night. :D

Probably would've been sent to the line 45 times

Nah, that would only happen if they were playing the 80's era Celtics because Bird, Ainge, DJ, Parish and McHale couldn't keep up.

Last night's game, they ran the last 5-6 minutes of the second quarter with Rose-Korver-Deng-Boozer-Noah, and absolutely destroyed the Hawks. With that lineup, for the year, the Bulls' offensive rating is 121, about 10 points higher than the best offensive team in the NBA. Defensively, they struggle, but when they can take advantage of a matchup where Korver can guard an offensive non-factor, that is a scary go-to lineup.

Sounds like what teams do to us when we have Thabo on the floor. "oh, put a white guy on him and give him 12-feet of room"

Another post from that stats thread at RealGM that I copy/pasted from earlier...

Bump.

Chicago now is number 1 in the NBA for point differential. The John Hollingers of the world will tell you that makes the Bulls the best team in the NBA. Given how many injuries the Bulls have had, its impressive.

More fun stats: The Bulls are 16-4 (66 win pace) with Boozer and Noah in the lineup with a point differential of +9.3 (which approaches truly elite status if kept up for a season). If you take out the first two games, it goes to 16-2 and +12.6 (the 72-10 bulls were +12.3 for reference).

And...

Celtics lost to Memphis tonight, so the Bulls now have a 1 game lead for the top seed.

Miami about to beat Detroit, though, so they'll remain 2.5 back. Could feasibly sneak into the 2 seed at this point.

So if the Bulls beat the Celts they'll have the tiebreaker over them and a 1 game lead with 11 other games to be played?

The Bulls won't have the tiebreaker over the Celts, but if the Bulls win the head to head, that gives them now a one-game cushion for the other 11 games.

The big difference right now in the East standings is how well the teams have performed against the tough Southwest division. The Celtics are just 3-6 against those teams, with a game remaining in San Antonio (and they did beat SA for one of the wins). Miami is 4-5 with a game vs. Houston remaining. Orlando is 5-5, Atlanta 2-6 (HOU/SA), Philly 3-6 (HOU), Pacers 2-7 (NO), the Knicks 5-5. The Bulls? 8-1, with a game vs. Memphis remaining.

wow, I didn't realize the Celts were so much better against the East than we were.

huuuuge loss for the celts. their remaining schedule isn't favorable... at least compared to ours. they still get the spurs, hawks, heat, bulls, sixers, and knicks...... most of those on the road.

the number 1 seed is looking huge right now. i know the knicks are struggling big time and their defense is comical, but they still scare me way more than indiana.

also, the number 1 seed insures that you don't have to play miami or boston until the ECF, and that you only have to go through one of them.

That Boston/Miami thing is the real key... (plus obviously having home court in any non-Finals series). The Knicks don't scare me at all.

i'm starting to think we can win a title

I'm not sure they can yet. But in a year or two once the Celtics, Lakers, and Spurs are all too old to be able to beat them they could start to run some off. But, I guess that depends on where Robbie Hummel ends up and which point guard NY gets to play with Melo and A'mare.

Yeah, if you don't think the Bulls can beat the Knicks, you shouldn't even think about them beating the Celtics, Heat or Lakers.

Am I missing some sort of inside joke, or are you saying that Robbie Hummel will have an impact on the NBA title chase?

It was a joke, although I've been told he's the greatest Big Ten player possibly ever.

I figured it had to be but wanted to make sure.

The Chicago Bulls are, without a doubt, championship contenders. Any claim to the contrary is ignorant of the information available, either willingly or otherwise.

In case the facts have eluded you thus far:

* Chicago is tied for the best record in the Eastern Conference, sitting pretty at 50-19.

* The Bulls rank second in the league in efficiency differential, a measure that negates the impact of pace and ascertains a more accurate view of total performance.

* In 11 games this month Chicago has posted an average efficiency differential of +13.3 points per 100 possessions, an even higher mark than their season average. The Bulls are on top of the world, and they’re destroying almost every opponent put in front of them with the playoffs right around the corner.

* Chicago also ranks second in average point differential (+7.07), coming in just a shade below Miami (+7.11) for league-high honors.

* The Bulls’ defense isn’t just the best in the league, but impressive even by historical standards. As SI.com’s Zach Lowe pointed out in his analysis of the Bulls as contenders, Chicago’s 99.9 points allowed per 100 possessions is among the top marks in the N.B.A. since alterations to the hand-checking rules made it easier for offensive players to score before the 2004-5 season.

* Chicago holds its opponents to a lower effective field goal percentage than any other team in the league.

* The icing on the cake: Chicago’s yearlong numbers may undersell its worth on offense and defense. Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer have missed a combined 54 games this season, and though the Bulls didn’t seem to miss a beat, it’s hard to make the case that Chicago wouldn’t have been better off with its best defensive big and a highly productive scorer and rebounder in the mix. We’ve seen just how good Chicago has been with a healthy roster – like in its 40-point win over Sacramento on Monday night, for instance – but there’s a distinct possibility that this team is only getting better.
