Carolina has released WR Dwayne Jarrett following his second DWI arrest in less than three years.

I thought he was going to be a great receiver when he was drafted. Ouch.

One of my friends who is a Vikings fan was super pissed when we drafted Sidney Rice instead of Jarrett. We had a bet on who would be more productive in their first three years. Needless to say, I won.

I thought Sidney would be good, but I thought Jarrett was a little more polished and a little more athletic. Rice was clearly faster, though, I thought.

Jarrett is one who let character issues overshadow his talent. I think he just cared about collecting his paycheck and wasn't concerned with actually working and earning it.

Belichick has a chance to get a shrewd haul here. Moss is still a great receiver, but he's not necessary to the success of the Patriots - they'll be fine with Welker, Edelman, etc. Especially considering that the Vikings are probably desperate and may just significantly overpay.

That said, if the Vikings can get Moss it's a great move for them. An older team like them doesn't need to be giving up 1st to 2nd round picks lightly, but Moss is the kind of talent that can potentially elevate Favre back to being really good - and that makes the Vikings really good again.

Everything that I have read says it would be for a 3rd pick +. So I have no idea what the Patriots are thinking.

Moss has either given up with the Pats or he's lost quite a bit this year. Considering that and all his whining, I wouldn't be surprised if that's all they could get.

Not the biggest fan of that from the Patriots' perspective, though they probably figure he won't re-sign with them so they better get something for him. I don't think they need him to have a good to very good offense, but I'm still not crazy about trading that kind of a talent without getting a premium return.

Yeah, generally I'd say if that's all you could get then don't trade him - make him stick it out and get the production. However, Moss has shown that if he's unhappy and wants out, he simply won't produce. Given that, if he's quit on them then they don't have much choice but to get whatever they can.

It has to be attitude related, I'd think.

I would give up a 2 for him if they have him signed to an extension. Schefter was talking about them repeating what they did with Seymour and adding another #1 pick but the only way the Viking should give up a 1st (and then some) is if Mankins is coming too.

God I hope this is true. Somehow that [expletive] Red McCombs should be ordered to pay half of this salary if this goes through.

To paraphrase a friend of mine on Twitter, how ridiculous is it that an accidental Tweet (intended to be a DM), by Bill Simmons of all people, has spawned the Randy Moss trade saga?

they're saying the deal will be finalized tomorrow. if simmons even "broke" it out in the open, it wasn't staying secret long.

Glazer tweeted to simmons that he was sitting on this story all day, possibly even all weekend. I guess Moss got really pissed about not having a catch Monday and showed up today in a bad mood and had a "war of words" with Belichick.

Time to break out all the old pics. Moss will probably be my background by tonight. His fake moon ("what a disgusting act!!!") has been my fantasy team logo for the last 3 years. If it really is only for a 3rd, this is a no-brainer.

That whole fake moon debocle sealed the deal on my hatred of Joe Buck. He was absolutely livid about it for no apparent reason.

Me and this guy at work have a list of people we want to punch in the face on sight. Joe Buck is #1 on both of our lists.

All it took was a 3rd rounder? Sigh.

Do players who get traded in the mid-season have success with their new teams traditionally? It seems like there would be a few factors that a new player would have to overcome. For one, doesn't a player pretty much have to learn a new offense on the fly?

Depends on the player, position and system. The Vikings are just going to tell Randy Moss to go deep, not really much to learn. Devin Hester being traded to Kansas City midseason would probably be rough.
