Caught or Recovered

ARTICLE 2. a. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered by

any inbounds player, the ball continues in play (A.R. 7-2-2-I and II, A.R.

2-23-1-I).

Exceptions:

RULE 7-2 / SNAPPING AND PASSING THE BALL FR-101

1. Rule 8-3-2-d-5 (Team A fumble on the try).

2. On fourth down before a change of team possession, when a Team

A fumble is caught or recovered by a Team A player other than the

fumbler, the ball is dead. If the catch or recovery is beyond the spot

of the fumble, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble. If the

catch or recovery is behind the spot of the fumble, the ball remains

at the spot of the catch or recovery.

As far as I can tell that rule says it shouldn't have been a conversion on the fake FG by LSU.

It wasn't 4th down.

4th and 3 at FLA 36 Josh Jasper rush for 5 yards to the Fla 31 for a 1ST down.

Yes it was.

Can we jump Boise back above Oregon after the Ducks were sluggish in beating a pitiful Wazzu team, Boise whooped up on a team probably better than Wazzu, and Boise's best opponent so far went to Tucson and beat Arizona?

sounds good to me.

by the way, tcu is still looking really impressive. if they trample air force and beat up on utah in SLC, they should very much be a part of the title conversation.

Sorry. You're right, it was 4th down. I think the play is allowed advancement because the rules are different for a fumble and a backward pass. A backward pass can be advanced.

I don't think anybody on here would or should have a problem with that.

I'm very excited about Illinois winning yesterday. I'm not sure if this means Penn State is really bad or the Illini are decent. I think it is a little of both. I think next week will go a long way in determining Illinois' strength against MSU. With that said, they have put together two solid games against two of the perennial Big Ten powers in consecutive weeks. That is progress, and that is something to celebrate.

Also, I'm really excited about the possibility of Christmas in Detroit, a bowl game (and possibly a win) would be HUGE for the program.

I'm sure you're by yourself on that one.

Illinois has looked decent in every game this season. I don't think that's a coincidence.

I think those two games will push TCU over Boise St in the BCS.

I'm not sure about that. Boise State has a big game left as well against Nevada and the WAC is right there with the MWC this year. Plus Boise is getting all the headlines and it's really hard for teams in the top 5 to jump each other this late in the year unless somebody loses.

Correct, and there won't be a regime change when JoePa retires/croaks, as he'll make sure that Bradley gets the head coach position and that all the coaches are retained

WRONG.

Tennessee looked horrid Saturday. After not turning the ball over once in the previous two games, we made up for it Saturday. I figured if Georgia played like they were capable of playing we'd lose badly and that was the case. I was hoping the UGA that lost four straight would show, though.

Justin Hunter is going to be a really good wide receiver.

how am I emphatically wrong? you really believe Paterno won't name his successor?

Looking at the schedule again I think you might be right. I'm looking at the road game against Utah as TCU's game to make a move. Boise St. really needs Nevada to remain undefeated before they play. It hurts TCU that their game in Utah is two weeks before Boise's game in Nevada.

Well, I should point out that in this situaiton, really no one knows what will happen, but from the info I've gathered, its not as cut and dry as people think.

First of all, if Joe croaks while still in position, even from the grave he won't be able to ensure his pick would get the job. But lets say that Joe gets to name his successor. Then without a doubt he will say, "Jay". And then Spanier will say, "Try again."

Heres the thing, Graham Spanier knows that whomever he hires to replace Joe Paterno will be, for better or worse, a defining mark on his legacy as President at PSU. If something unfortunate happened to Joe while still coach either this year or next, then yeah, I could see Bradley taking over from there, albeit temporarily. But if you are talking about Joe retiring at the end of this year, then I am 99% convinced that Spanier and Curley will look at an outside candidate. Tony Dungy, Jon Gruden, Al Golden, Harbaugh, Cowher.... someone with some major experience and someone who will return PSU to top 5 or 10 status, almost immediately.

Bradley is not entirely well-thought of at PSU, not by Athletics employees, not by his own defensive players (who aren't from Pittsburgh), and not by some of his fellow coaches. A current coach's wife said just this past Saturday, "If Bradley is the guy then you will see all of the real coaches leave in about 30 seconds." I could go into it more, but would rather keep certain things off the public board.

Dungy, Gruden and Cowher are almost certainly not going to coach at the collegiate level – no matter the prestige of the school.

Especially not since almost any NFL team would hire any of the three in a heartbeat.

I'm not so sure that is true of Gruden.

I don't think it's true of Dungy either, as he seems to be a guy that values teaching/mentoring kids. But you are going to have to pay any of them NFL money ($10Mil/year) to coach.

First or second line? I'm almost positive he's not going to a college football team, but I could see where he'd be much less in demand than Dungy or Cowher.

bring back redflash!

What happened to that rapscallion?

Is Texas that bad or did UCLA just have a perfect day?

Michigan State should be assured of 6-2 at those point basically. Their schedule is garbage the rest of the way. I wish Wisconsin would have won last week.

Honestly is anyone good this year?

UCLA had nearly a perfect day. They're still the same team as the one that beat Houston and Texas. Iffy defense that has to rely on its superstar to play at an All-America level and offense that can run very well but can't pass against even Wazzou. And once they're down, things will spiral out of control since they can't throw the football.

Mostly about being hired in a heartbeat, but possibly taking a college job. Being a college head coach is a great gig. Sure, most of these guys want to succeed at the highest level, but all three have already done it. College head coaching can offer much longer contracts, much more stability and much less pressure.
