Yea a 3 year deal seems very reasonable to me. Wouldn't surprise me if he got more than 3 years, actually. Lilly's been awesome since 07.

Lilly last 4 seasons (124 starts)-

3.70 ERA

120 ERA+

1.13 WHIP

3.38 K/BB

7.7 K/9

And most of that came in Wrigley, which isn't the best park for the type of pitcher Lilly is

Oh, it won't surprise me to see him get a 3-year deal. I guess I was just (foolishly) hoping the Cubs could re-sign him a 1 or 2-year deal. He's going to be 35 before Opening Day, so I would be nervous giving him a long term deal at this point.

Would anyone be interested in him coming back to Chicago for a 2 or 3 year deal?

I would love to have him back for 2 years, but it won't happen when there are teams offering more money and more years than the Cubs will be willing to pay.

I thought he mentioned the fact that he wanted to come back next year when he was traded. Maybe he would be willing to give a discount of the # of years or $ to be with the Cubs?

is he a type a or b? if so it would be incredibly Hendry like to resign him an give prospects back to the dodgers.

According to mlbtraderumors he will definitely be an A.

Question is whether or not the Dodgers offer arbitration. McCourt's divorce only muddles the situation.

The Cubs draft pick is protected, right? How does that work, do the Dodgers just get a couple of sandwich picks?

The Cubs' first round pick is protected, yes. If he's a Type A, the Dodgers would get the Cubs' second round pick along with a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds. If he's a Type B, the Cubs wouldn't forfeit anything and the Dodgers would get a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds.

All of the above is contingent on the Dodgers offering Lilly arbitration, by the way. If they don't offer it, they get nothing.

Damn. I didn't think we had a great shot at Lilly, or were not sure we were all that interested in resigning him, but I was kinda hoping we would.

Id have loved him on a 1 or 2 year deal, but considering his style, the NL West is the best place for him. Thats a lof of games at LA, San Fran, and San Diego where balls that would be home runs at a lot of parks would barely make the warning track.

Great park for him. I think he'll go down as one of my favorite Cubs of all time, if only for running over Molina (and knocking him out of the game) and the hilarious glove slam
