i have such a bizarre feeling towards this team, and i dont think it has anything to do with their recrod. i just feel so indifferent. after winning the cup, it just feels like this season is pointless or something.

i gotta believe that most of the struggles are because of the cup hangover. its gotta be hard to get the intensity back just a few months after reaching the pinnacle of your sport.

i bet they'll play better in the second half. i hope so, anyways.

That's what I've been saying. And most of the core is so young. when you've achieved the kind of year they've had last year. Almost the entire core experienced significant individual success last year, also reached both pinnacles of their sport (Gold/Silver medals and the Stanley Cup) and after that they come out 3 months later and have to do it again? I could seeing a veteran team rising above it, but as much as I hate to admit it, its tough to come with the same intensity. Pittsburgh dealt with the same stuff last season, another mostly very young team that reached the mountaintop. If the fans are admitting indifference, imagine how the players feel.

That said, I never ever expected the team to play this poorly. And like I said above, they definitely have. It's not like they are playing middle of the road hockey. They are playing cellar dweller hockey right now. As much as we'd like to complain about all the games we've had to play (and its legitimate), we've still had a favorable schedule in that 11 of the 18 games we've played were at home. And we've pissed away that opportunity, going 4-7-0. No other team in the NHL has 7 regulation losses at home OR on the road. In fact only 1 team has more than 7 losses of any type (including OT) on either home ice or on the road this year. In fact, only 7 teams have more than 7 TOTAL losses this year. They are on pace to go 15-26-0 at home this year. That play a .500 road record is a 72 point season.

I was always under the impression that home ice isn't that big of a deal in hockey.

It's not because hockey is such a crapshoot. It definitely wasn't a big deal last season, especially in the East.

The Hawks just need to get in and they'll have a shot.

I feel exactly the same way. I will watch the games if I happen to be home, but I won't go out of my way and definitely won't pull up the game online when I'm on the road. I'm sure I'll get the fever down the stretch when the playoff race gets going, but I'm just not feeling it right now.

At least the Hawks get a point on the road tonight. Game is still tied at 3 in OT and Nashville is up a man due to a horrible tripping penalty on Kane.

Another of the many problems the Blackhawks have is they seem to always take inopportune penalties late in a game with point(s) on the line.

Last night a trip in OT (on a sketchy call), and tonight Kop gets called for boarding with 50 seconds left in a tie game.

FINALLY 2 points at home!

Normally that takes 3-4 games to collect 2 points.

Please be the start of a turnaround. I enjoy this team too much.

And the Hawks pretty much dominated that OT after the penalty was killed. It was only a matter of time before they scored.

Also the shot differential was very encouraging. Maybe tonight it only led to an OT win, but you keep putting up numbers like that and the wins will come.

Oh and given the struggles we've had this year, I'll take 3 out of 4 points available on the weekend, even if we gave our Western Conference opponents 3 points back.
