4 goals given up to the [expletive] oilers in the first period. 3 in the last 2 minutes. Unacceptable.

The funny thing about this post was it originally said "2 goals given up to the [expletive] oilers in the first period" and before I could post it, a 3rd goal was scored, so I edited it, and before posting the 4th goal was scored. Blah

Hawks going 1998 Florida Marlins here.

Just kidding. But losing to Columbus and Edmonton at home, losing Hossa, and embarking on the circus trip in a few weeks leads me to believe that we have an uphill battle the 2nd half of the season.

But WE WON THE [expletive] STANLEY CUP. Suck it every other team I've rooted for since 1998.

I think it's fair to start worrying about this team. I know Campbell's due back soon, but the defensive effort has been ridiculously bad this season. The Oilers were outshot today but they had many more prime scoring chances compared to the Hawks. That's been the common theme this year.

What do the Hawks do well? I'm struggling to come up with an answer.

Drink?

It's been really disappointing seeing Bolland, Kane, Toews and Keith among others to come out so sluggish this season. I don't know if it's a slow start or a weakened team due to trades and injuries or if its what I feared going into this year, which is a Cup hangover. We're talking about the core of the team almost exclusively in their mid to late 20's, they've already accomplished the best year they could possibly have (many winning gold or silver in the olympics and also being a key contributor on a Cup team), and Kane, Toews, Hossa and Keith are all locked up long term. Also, you watched half your team disappear so you know that even if you put in the same level of work as last year, you are probably gonna fall short of the Cup. So you've achieved your team goal, you have security, what else is there? It's difficult unless you are mentally really tough to achieve the same level of desire and passion for winning when the hunger isn't there. Even if their mentality is in the right place, they might not have that extra gear.

Anyways, I'm not saying this is happening, but I'm introducing the idea and seeing what people think.

BTW, seems like Bolland is dealing with some injury issues as well. He didn't skate on Thursday or before the game and didn't play the 3rd. He only played 9 minutes overall tonight.

Yeah, I kept looking up at the scoreboard and our shot differential was looking good, but score wasn't.

What I saw was abysmal defense. Just terrible gaffs in our zone. Also just not knowing so many names. It really hit me yesterday just much turnover there's been.

It's not a good situation right now...

This is turning into the Rockford Ice Hogs.

Remember when we said we'd only really feel the loss of depth if we had to deal with a lot of injuries this year? Well here we go.

I know the team is pretty young, but between the Olympics and winning the Stanley Cup they played a bunch of games last year. They might still be feeling the effects. It's very early folks. I am still confident that all this team has to do is just get int he playoffs and they can beat anyone.

That's probably true. But if the injury situation stays like this all year, making the playoffs won't be a given. Especially with teams like St. Louis playing way over their heads.

I'm glad they picked it up Saturday.

I'm still pissed about Friday though. That was likely my only chance to see the Hawks live this year and they just looked like such a wet sack of crapola.

Then there were 3 big, long traffic delays getting home -- caused by lane closures and one nasty crack up (drunk driver probably). But that's another story. It was a bad night :)

That is interesting. I really really hope it is not a case of a desperate team pushing a player back too soon to make up for all the other injuries. If he is really good to go then it would really help.

this team isn't very fun to watch

Agreed.

Scoring has been an issue this year hasn't it? I miss Ladd and Versteeg. Kane and Toews too.

I didn't like the comments from Campbell before the game. He sounded timid, like he wasn't totally healthy and was being rushed back.

Screw you Lundqvist.

The Blackhawks outplayed the Rangers in that game but Henry was the difference. Oh well, at least I got to enjoy my favorite thing about MSG, the pretzel rod that comes with each beer.

I only watched the first period of the game, but man that place seemed empty. Was it as dead quiet as it sounded on tv?
