Seriously, the awesomeness of the archery match has ruined any interest in anything unless it's Phelps or Bolt; it's all downhill otherwise.

Beach Volleyball??

I can't quite place my finger on why, but women's beach volleyball is not nearly as entertaining as it used to be.

It's not nearly as fun when it's in the mid-50s to mid-60s and all the women cover up.

The team is 8 years older than when they first debuted, maybe? Hyphenated names, husbands, kids, dogs, cats and a minivan most definitely.

I don't know much about Olympic soccer, but none of the really big names play? I heard Beckham has never played in the Olympics?

The men play their under 23 team in the Olympics, I think a few spots are open to older players who are on their way out of international soccer. There's speculation that this will be the direction the US goes in basketball after this Olympic team.

The rules are: any U-23 player selected must be released by their club - a maximum of three players may be over 23, but their clubs are under no obligation to release them.

Why do they have these rules for soccer?

FIFA doesn't like competition for their World Cup; this is the agreement they and the IOC came up with to make the Olympic tournament more relevant and at the same time no threat to said WC.

Apparently this table tennis match would be about the same as the 1980 hockey upset if the American wins. I have chills.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that a game I play drunk is an Olympic sport.

You can pole vault drunk if you want to. Hell, you're drunk; you can do whatever you want.

And yet women's soccer gets to have all the biggest names.

Yes! I was saying exactly that to my wife numerous times last night.

That's because the financial stakes (for FIFA) are much smaller in women's soccer.

1968, Bob Beamon breaking the world record by a whole 2 feet. He actually out jumped the measuring equipment so it took them a while to figure out how far he actually leapt.

why is swimming on the outside lanes a detriment in swimming? never heard that explained yesterday.

I don't know that it is.

Wouldn't the reason swimmers on the outside lanes don't win medals because they were slowest in the qualifying heats and therefore not as good as the swimmers on the inside?

don't they say the waves crashing off the wall and bouncing back at you?

That's also what I've heard. Apparently the waves are more choppy.

You also can't see the rest of the field as well from the outside, though that might be more minor.
