Starlin Castro is currently 5th in the majors in SS OPS. Second in average, 5th in OBP, 5th in SLG.

Even more encouraging to me, let's say we eventually have to move him to 2nd base ... he'd still be fifth. HE'S ONLY 21. I'm calling it now, 3,000 hits.

I think he pretty much has to be the Cubs all star. Who else has stood out from this team?

-Pena maybe but 1B is way to stacked in the NL to overlook the damage his April did to his season numbers. Maybe at least a consideration with Pujols maybe out for the game.

-Soriano might get some consideration...I am not sure how crowded OF is.

-None of the starters should really be considered, but in the pen, Marshall or Marmol are always options.

Looking at NL SS, Reyes is the lockiest lock that ever locked and I believe is winning the fan voting (right?). After that Tulo is the only guy I think can be argued should get in before Castro. Hanley has a worse OPS for the season than Rnny Ceen, so unless he gets voted in, he's out. And considering none of the other Cubs seem to be obvious choices for all-stars, I think its more than likely our SS becomes ALL-STARlin Castro. (look, I found a worse nickname than Cassie!)

I'm basically all in on Castro. I remember what it was like to be totally enamored with Prior, and though I flew too close to the sun on wings of pastrami in that case, I'm willing to do it again.

I really want to see someone photoshop a Castro spray chart

You just made me look up his hit chart. Interesting to see that he makes the majority of his outs on ground balls to the left side and his fly ball outs are almost exclusively to center or right (at least from his home data). His hits are pretty close to as all over the field as you can get though.

Obviously you don't want to judge a guy in the middle of a super hot streak, but he's .327/.356/.446 right now as a 21-year old. I don't care if he's a leftfielder. At his age, I'll take it.

17-33 over his last 8 games, with 7 multi-hit games over that span. Un-real.

If the kid showed a bit more plate discipline, he might be perfect. Although each passing day, that one flaw matters less and less to me.

I don't know about 3,000 hits. But, barring injury, he's a virtual lock for 500 hits before his 23rd birthday, which gives him a pretty good head start.

considering his low walk rate AND his low strike out rate, he's going to get a crazy amount of hits. combine that with the fact that he's getting this head start on his coutning stats (by playing so young) and he's going to have an excellent chance at 3,000 if he doesnt become injury prone.

Im too lazy to look it up but would...sorry, will Castro be the youngest All Star ever?

I'm too lazy too, but my guess is Junior was younger.

Yeah, you're right, The Kid was 20. I cant even imagine what his career numbers would look like if he hadnt been injured for the majority of the Reds years.

I [expletive] hate fans like that. If you know [expletive] is going to be awful forever then stop being a fan of the team. You suck at everything, Bum.
