Im all about firing Lou ASAP, but should Hendry get another chance? I figure, if Ricketts has somebody in mind, go for it, but if not, maybe let Jim finish his contract, but keep him on a leach. Granted, hes stuck this team with some awful, crippling contracts, but ever since the Bradley signing, hes made some pretty good moves. He sold high on DeRosa, and got some salary relief for Marquis. Granted these moves were to free up the money to sign Bradley, but then we got Silva for him, which seems to have ended up the best case scenerio. We seem to be coming out pretty well in the Grabow/Gorzolanny trade, however, the Grabow extension never should have happened. He got a great deal on Marlon Byrd at about 5 mil/year considering that hes been out most consistant hitter thus far. However, getting rid of Pie for nothing and then signing Joey Gathright was a horrible move as well.

Hendrys always been able to work good trades, with the Pierre trade as his main blemish. His free agent signings, on the other hand have been disasterous. Assuming that Ricketts doesnt have anyone better in mind to replace Hendry, if Hendry can simply stop being a bone head when it comes to free agency, could he be a decent GM? Its really simple, if ownership just doesnt let him make these horrendous signings, he cant do them. Also, from what Ive heard he has a very good relationship with other GMs around the league. Considering his tight relationship with Kevin Towers, who I think is still the Pads GM, should we at least keep around long enough to make a deal for Adrian?

I dont love the guy by any means, but all Im saying is that when Hendnry was handing out contracts to the likes of Soriano, Zambrano, and Fukudome(who everyone loved at the time) it didnt seem like he had anyone to answer to, and they wanted to stock the team with higher profile players to make it more marketable to potential buyers. If he isnt allowed to spend as freely, he might make some better moves. Also, without the freedsom he had unde the last few years of the Trib regime, hes be spending wiser, and certainly not paying for guys like Miles, Grabow, and Gathright who we could get from the farm system.

Before Miles, Grabow, and Gathright, there was Neifi, Remlinger and Eyre.

John McDonough has to bear some of the blame for our current contract situation. He had much more to do with signings like Soriano than did easy targets like Crane Kenney.

Oh yeah, Hendry has to go.

If Ricketts is a hands-on owner starting next year, it might not hurt to keep Hendry. Most posters agree that trading is Hendry's strong point, so dumping him when the club needs to trade off dead weight might not be a good idea. Also paying off Hendry (2 years) plus paying a new GM adds to the financial woes. Just keep a close eye on him when it comes to signing free agents.

I'd rather keep Lou out of the two (not advocating it though). There is no reason to keep Hendry once the season is over.

Should Hendry get another chance? Not just no, but HELL no. We should declare our independence from Jim and Lou today.

The problem is, while he's very good at coordinating trades and working the phones, the returns he gets in a number of his trades have me concerned.

Sure, he's pulled off some good ones (Gorzelanny, Harden, Nomar), but he's also pulled off some really horrific ones (Trachsel, Juan Pierre, Izturis).

How was the Trachsel trade a horrific trade? He dealt two AAAA fillers likely with little to no value for a mediocre pitcher. It didn't make a lot of sense, but he didn't give up all that much.

He really hasn't made all that many bad trades. The Maddux and Pierre deals are easily his worst and I can't think of too many other particularly bad ones. His good deals far, far outweigh his bad ones.

Should Hendry get another chance? Yes. With another organization.

Maybe the Cards will hire him!?!?

The Maddux for Izturis trade was a great one. Because Steve Stone said so.

Hendry can stay through the rest of this season. Then he should get his walking papers. Around 5pm on October 3rd.

I want Hendry and Lou both gone ASAP. That said, part of me does at least wonder if the Trib telling Hendry to win now at all costs(supposedly anyway) doesn't have something to do with the predicament that he's currently in. Oh well, nice guy, but time for a change.

Not that Hendry is worth keeping the draft guy formerly of the Blue Jays, but if (when) Hendry goes, does draft guy leave as well? I like draft guy. I don't like Hendry and that other asshat in the front office who wears Hawaiian shirts.
