do we have to endure this crap team? Seriously what is the threshold of shittyness that we have to surpass to get some sort of response from management?

Africa by train is a decidedly tedious proposition.

The Cubs have the 8th best team ERA in baseball (3.85) and are only 0.02 points away from having the 6th best ERA. In June, they held the 3rd best ERA in baseball (3.43) yet went 10-16.

Unfortunately, the Cubs are 26th in the MLB in runs scored. 10th in April, 24th in May, 26th in June. .597 OPS for the Cubs in the last 7 days. Ouch.

Yeah, I'm definitely not talking about the pitching. But we can't even get Derrek Lee and Aramis moved out of the three and four holes for more than a game or so. They can't even combine their numbers to meet what Miguel Cabrera has done this year. I heard Kenny Williams on the news the other day talking about the whitesox before they went on their recent tear of national league pitching. He was talking about not settling for a poor on the field product and how he almost had a fire sale to prepare for next year and to show some respect to the fans. And as much as I think Kenny is an _____________(insert insult) you have to respect him that he could man up and admit that below average is below expectations and unacceptable. Why can't the cubs see this? The waiting period for this offense to figure things out is long expired. We need moves to be made and perhaps there is even one that makes us better this year. I don't know. But Hendry and upper management sitting on their hands is a complete joke.

Between the ticket increases, drafting a DII player for below slot money with our first round pick and standing by while the team sinks like the titanic the trib years are looking pretty good compared to "year one" of the Ricketts.

There's some reason to believe they do see it. The rumors have been there that they've shopped Kosuke and that a poor showing against the Reds will lead to a fire sale.

Hendry's a patient trader and generally pretty good at it. No sense in rushing to move players when waiting a bit might increase the return (or raise interest in some guys who have none now). We've still got 29 days until the trading deadline, might as well use them to maximize players' value.

Frankly I'm tired of wanting the Cubs to lose, but I still fear desperation moves. The sooner this thing gets blown up, the sooner we can move on and start thinking positively about next year and beyond. If we lose this series to the Reds (better yet a sweep), the towel has to be realistically thrown in. Offering Kosuke isn't reassuring. Offering Lee, Lilly and Silva would be a good start on the offseason. I really think the Cubs can contend next season, but only if the rest of this season is played shrewdly.

aside from the 1 game i've attended in person, i doubt i've watched more than 15 innings of the cubs this season. still read the box score every day, but there is no appeal to this team whatsoever.

I don't understand why you think any "response" from management this season would mean you would somehow end up not consistently watching a crap Cubs team for the rest of the year.

I agree with what someone brought up in the other thread, that ideally this shitty, shitty team isn't going to be dumped on anyone else this year.

Masochist that I am, I still watch most of the games. Partly because I have several Cubs on my fantasy team, partly to see Castro/Colvin, and primarily out of morbid curiosity.

For the first time in a while, I'm actually looking forward to watching the Raiders in September rather than the Cubs. Even in 2006, I still had at least one Rich Hill start to look forward to each week, which is more than the 0 Raiders games I was going to enjoy.

When Ricketts began his African safari, it was reported that he told the front office members the direction he wants them to take the rest of the season. Shortly after he left, we started hearing the rumors that Kosuke was being offered for sale and now the rumors that a full-fledged fire sale may begin if the Reds take the series.

My thought is that it's likely Ricketts instructed Hendry to sell, which would preclude any desperation type trades.

Just make sure you're not too sober to watch this team. At the start of the season it took a cold one. Right now it's taking eight cold ones and a good joint. I expect by the end of the season to need black tar heroin. :banghead:

By the time the courier's boat reaches Ricketts in Africa, so much time will have passed that he won't know how bad things are. The message probably says we're only 2 games under 500 now.

The horror. The horror.

I wonder if Hendry will be trusted to start making changes at the deadline, and if so, what that means about his future as GM of this ballclub.

I'm most afraid of Hendry being trusted by Ricketts, and brought back.

I want new leadership, new management, the works.

Several Cubs on your fantasy team? You must be in dead last.

I think making a change right after the trade deadline might make sense. If hasn't happened by now, doing it before the deadline might not be ideal.

20 runs scored in the last 10 games. It's just brutal, brutal baseball they're playing right now.

The offensive (pun intended) woes of this team go back further than that. If you take out the 2 games where they scored 12 & 8 runs in June, the Cubs have averaged 2.8 runs per game in the last 20 games!!
