Or two from South Africa. SA winning 2-0 and URU winning 3-0 would mean both SA and MEX scored three and allowed four. SA has to make up five goals in differential and score at least two more goals than Mexico to tie the GF and three to lead.

Yeah, I realized afterward there just wasn't a way to say that in one sentence.

From Dan Wetzel's twitter:

At Paris airport. Many French cheered South African goal. Love it when fans hate their own team when they act like punks.

Finishing up a webinar I had to take notes on, but I love ESPN3's PIP capability. Made this webinar a lot more tolerable.

Here's a cleaned up advancement scenario focusing on RSA advancing.

Assuming a URU and RSA win:

France is out, Uruguay has advanced. In order for RSA to advance:

Both MEX and RSA would have 4 points.

As it stands right now:

         GD GF
MEX +2 3
RSA -3 1

If MEX loses 1-0, RSA needs 4 goals

If MEX loses 2-0, RSA needs 3 goals

and so on.

Tactically, this is very interesting for Aguirre and Mexico. Do they bunker, trying to hold off Uruguay, knowing Bafana Bafana are playing a disinterested and 10 man French side? Do they attack, opening themselves up to condede a 2nd?

I'm very curious to see how this plays out.

I have to think they play at least a little aggressively. If you bunker, the best case scenario is you move on to Argentina. If you play open you have a shot at equalizing with some time to win. Sounds like they had as many good chances as Uruguay in the first half, so they have to believe they can get on the board.

I don't see Mexico being able to bunker properly with this roster anyway. It's built to attack down the wings.

SA off the post. Very unlucky.

If you made a $100 bet that France's coach would be fired after the World Cup, how much would you get back if he was? $5?

You probably wouldn't be able to make that bet because Domenech was done regardless. The French Federation basically hired a new coach to take over after the World Cup.

Well it would be fun to root for, but at least it would be nice to see RSA go home with a win, and France go home with 0 points and 1 goal scored all tournament. That would have to put them close to 32nd out of 32, but I think North Korea will probably win that designation.

France got one point - they tied Uruguay.
