Pathetic day on the mound. Raley's given up 6 earned in 4 innings so far. Cabrera had another subpar outing in Tennessee. I'd give someone else a shot at this point, perhaps Rusin. And even McNutt has given up 4 runs(only 1 earned though) in 2 innings so far.

Peoria suspended in the not of the 3rd, 4-4 tie. Will be made up tomorrow, with Sunday's game being a 7 inning affair after. As for McNutt, he had a lot of trouble in the first and lost composure, but between innings recovered well and started rolling again. What's his supposed velocity? According to the park gun he was sitting 92-94, with a 72mph off speed pitch. That will help get a good reading on the accuracy of last nights pitchers. And, Ha, I hope he adjusts well to each level, because his bat if his pitch recognition at each level adjusts to "adequate", will keep him around in very much a 4th OF role. I'd guess that's his realistic yet optimistic ceiling? He's got nice pop already, but tends to overswing and corkscrew himself into the ground, but when he makes contact, it's good contact. And don't read much into the steal fest going on, the whitecaps pitcher was slow to the plate, and the catchers footwork wasn't the best. Thomas stole second on a "94 mph" high fastball, and a somewhat accurate throw.

McNutt is normally 92-94 and tops out at 96. Disappointing to hear the gun was accurate on him because I was hoping it was inaccurate on Nick Struck last night.

From what I saw of last season with Ha, his pitch recognition is pretty bad (he had more OF assists than walks for most of last season). But he played most of last season with an injured wrist so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

are we still supposed to be excited about vitters?

*Shrug*

We're only a third of the way through the minor league season. He's hit into a lot of bad luck so far in the season, plus he's getting a reputation for being a really streaky hitter. If he's still sucking wind at the end of the season, I'll be concerned. For now, I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah, if a 20 year old isn't OPS'ing over 1.000 in his first month of AA then we might as well cut him.

I don't think it's too absurd to question the future of Vitters. While he is still young, he hasn't exactly been outstanding. His 08 Boise and 09 Peoria numbers were good, but there's been a lot of mediocrity around that.

He was drafted in '07 though and didn't sign until very late. It's not like he has had a ton of failure. Also his Fall League was pretty good.

It's not absurd to wonder if he'll be a good major leaguer, but it's pretty absurd to give up hope on a 20 year old that's struggling in his first month of AA.

I don't see where anyone was giving up hope.

Vitters is getting exposed because he's a hacker. It would be great if the Cubs taught patience (as much as it can be taught) in the minors, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

He's a Mike Cameron/Cliff Floyd/Soriano type hitter. We have to hope he's more Vlad than Corey Patterson.

Cameron isn't terrible when it comes to taking walks, with a career walk rate of 11.1%. Even Floyd was at 9.9% for his career. Vitters is at 3.6% in his minor league career, with a K rate of 15.8%.

When it comes to strikeouts and walks, Howie Kendrick (3.6% BB rate, 16.2% K rate) is a better comparison. Kendrick's minor league numbers were much better than Vitters' though.

Cliff Floyd, really? As a 19 year old he took 45 walks in A ball. I don't think Vitters has 45 walks as a pro yet. His career IsoD was .070, Vitters is like .030.
