If Bosh walks for a 5 year deal with no S&T I'm not sure the talking point that the Bulls did everything to get him holds water anymore.

Of course Bosh has to agree to it but a Joakim Noah package is way better than a Michael Beasley package. Although I've come around to the idea that signing Boozer/Lee outright is better anyway.

So you've already reached stage 5 on the Kübler-Ross model? Congrats.

Sorta.

But seriously, having Lee/Boozer at something less than the max and being able to retain Noah is better than having Bosh at the max and no Noah.

The only way it's not is if Bosh is the only avenue for Lebron or Wade which I admit is entirely possible.

Who's to say that Bosh would've taken the max with the Bulls. Miami had a few things going for them. Bosh is Wade's buddy with the same agent. There is this perception that Bosh and Wade can make a team a contender. And finally, there is no state tax in FLA.

It sounds like Toronto is not interested in a S&T deal centered around Michael Beasley. I don't know how else a S&T from Miami for Bosh would work.

At the same time, I'm really a bit surprised that Bosh would go somewhere without a 6 year S&T deal. He's not Lebron and he's not Wade where he has huge dollars coming off the court. That $30 million means a lot more to him than it does to those guys I would think.

I also think the Raptors would love to be able to get a guy like Noah in return for Bosh (assuming they don't have to take Deng's bad contract too) and Bosh would have to think very hard about accepting a S&T to Chicago if that were the case. Plus he knows Wade was in the picture there too. Of course Bosh has been pretty clear about wanting to play PF and losing Noah would change that equation.

I'm talking myself in circles here, I realize.

Is Bosh being S&Ted or do we not know that yet?

Anyway, let's get David Lee.

It sounds like the Bulls are targeting Carlos Boozer.

I like Lee better at this point.

He's younger, less injury risk, and while he's been horribad defensively he tries hard. I think he could go from awful to not terrible on D under Thibs and playing his real position in a defensive oriented system.

My guess is the Bulls are going to give both Boozer and Lee nearly identical offers. The first one to accept will be the one the Bulls get.

The gameplan has changed from hoping to get an elite player and building around said player/Rose and Noah to trying to build a deep team.

Not yet, he'll prob. get a new one rather than trying to get a FA deal with the new CBA coming up and a likely loss foe the players' association.

As far as the Bulls....

The Bulls had the right idea as far as clearing cap and trying to add or or more key FAs, just was the least attractive option given the hometown factors for Wade and James. I don't blame the Bulls for what they did, I'm not big on Lee (biased going to back to his UF days) but they need someone more like Boozer as well as an outside shooter like Morrow.

Lebron and Boozer/Lee on the Bulls still makes a lot of sense damn it! Nothing's changed!

listening to ESPN radio this morning, and they kept saying that Bosh was "taking $30M less to play in Miami over Cleveland," which makes it seem like he's straight signing as an FA and not doing a S&T

It makes sense though, if he's willing to take a cut to go to Miami, why would force Miami's hand by also making them give up a player or two to add one more maxed year onto his contract? This way Miami gets to keep a pick or whichever 2-3 guys they still had on the roster.

It annoys me how the media keeps saying all these guys are "leaving $30 million on table". OK, partially true, but not really. They are taking 5/96 rather than 6/125. That's leaving $29 million AND 1 year. You have to figure that these guys are good for $20 million or so in that last year. Even if they get old and suck, they are still good for at least $10 million. So nobody is really leaving $30 million on the table.

i'm pretty sure i remember Hollinger say that if David Lee could develop a 10-footer he'd be a hall of fame player

He has no post-up game either, he's too similar to Noah as far as an effort type of scorer rather than a purer ability to score in the paint.

That would be a bad pick for James if he did go to the Knicks, they'd score like the Nuggets of the late 80s and also come away with the same amount of titles.

I really think he's going to the Knicks. I can see him wanting to build his legacy in NY.

I don't understand it. Everyone thought the Knicks were totally out of it a few days ago. What has really changed? Amare Stoudamire. That's it. We all knew they had money for 2 max. So how does getting Amare really change anything. He's not that much better than Lee. The Bulls and the Nets are still better options in terms of winning.
