I don't doubt the Krause played a role, but the Magic were 500 and the Bulls won 17 games. There was a pretty sizable difference between the talent levels of the two teams.

yeah, but didn't they have a ton of expiring contracts that year? that was the whole reason they could sign two max FAs. it definitely wasn't talent level. they were an average team that had to jettison most of their average talent.

Looking at basketball-reference, it seems most of their expiring contracts were old junk, but they did lose Mercer and Maggette who you'd think would be seen as young talent back then. I'm trying to figure out how that team ever went 500.

C'mon SSR you should know why they went .500

is doc rivers the answer you're looking for? because that would be incorrect.

I think I've made it clear over the past few years that I think Rivers is a bad coach.

They were 9th in Defensive rating. Top 10 defense is at least good enough to go .500. If their offense wasn't so bad (22nd in ORating) they would have done a lot better.

I just read some of the transcript of the LBJ/Larry King interview on RealGM-getting irrationally excited again

Oh yeah? I heard he said the Cavs have an edge...what got you excited?

He said something about how he was flattered Mike Bloomberg wanted him to come to NYC but was humbled when Obama pitched Chicago. Probably meaningless but exciting nonetheless.

KING: Did you go to basketball games as a kid? Did you go see the Cavaliers play?

JAMES: No, I didn't. It wasn't affordable to go to a Cavs game. If you could catch a few on the TV, you'd be lucky.

KING: Were you a Cavs fan?

JAMES: Growing up? No I wasn't. I was a Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan fan growing up.

KING: So the president's suggestion might carry weight, right?

(LAUGHTER)

JAMES: It may, it may carry weight.

KING: So why the Bulls and not your own team?

JAMES: I was just, wow, I mean, Michael Jordan was just my inspiration. I mean, the things that he was able to do out on the basketball court, I loved. Everybody wanted to fly like Jordan, pull up and hit a game winner at the sound of the horn like Michael. You wanted to do commercials, you wanted to have his shoes. You know, everything that he did, I wanted to do.

KING: When did you first meet him?

JAMES: I met Michael Jordan, my first time, I was in the 10th grade. I went to Chicago and they played at a gym called Hoops. That was the first time I met him. It was like he was walking on water when he came towards me.

KING: Did he know who you were?

JAMES: Yes, he did. He did. And that was more gratifying and it was just very humbling that he knew who I was.

I think the main thing to be somewhat excited about is that he doesn't at all sound like he's committed to Cleveland, and he also seems like at this point he really has no idea which way he wants to go.

KING: [Michael Jordan] owns the team now.

JAMES: Right.

KING: Do you ever think about the possibility of playing for him?

JAMES: I've never thought about it. I do think it's great that he owns the team. You see a former player in our league and you see Mike and the things that he was able to do on the court. To see him still being successful off the court I think is awesome.

It's disconcerting that it appears as if at least Larry, if not both him and LeBron, appear to be under the impression that MJ owns the Bulls.

Yeah, I left that part out mostly because it confused me. The transcript must have missed something, because there's no way LeBron thinks that MJ owns the Bulls. If so, Wade were quickly set him straight.

Judging by his quotes, the Knicks, Nets, and Clippers are in a world of hurt if they want to land him.

I think it's either Cleveland or Chicago. Then again, what do I know?

You are a smart, smart man. I've said since Lebron Cavaliers were eliminated that the ONLY two teams that has a shot at James were Cleveland and Chicago. The only people who think the Clippers have even 0.1% of signing James are those idiots who march in the "Bring Lebron James to LA" parade.

The NO job is crap.

It really is. It wouldn't surprise me that Chris Paul is traded within the next two years.

With the way Collison played this year, there are rumors that Chris Paul will be traded within the next 2 months (heard the Knicks as a destination). As a starter, Collison put up 18.8 ppg and 9.1 apg this year.

What in the hell are the Knicks going to give up that's worth Chris Paul

NBA trades are made to get what a player is worth.

Is there a not missing there?

NBA trade are not made to get the New York Knicks one of the best players in the league when they have nothing in terms of payroll relief or actual good player to send back.

According to a source with first-hand knowledge of James' plans, the Larry King interview that was shot Tuesday and will air Friday on CNN was only the beginning of his elaborate scheme to draw unprecedented attention to his courting. James, according to the source, is in discussions with Nike to create a new shoe for every visit along his free agent path starting July 1. The shoes would have the date of the visit printed, with James already having scripted his itinerary for the Free Agency Tour 2010.

In other words: all the reports and tea-leaf reading about where he's going is worthless, because he and his handlers are orchestrating it all to create buzz.
