Edinson Volquez is who it is according to Heyman.

Volquez falls into my previous theory about a pitcher who recently had an injury they were attempting to recover from.

I am sure Volquez will come out saying that he took something he "didn't know violated MLB policy" while rehabbing from TJS.

Bonds, Sosa, Volquez....

Baker's gonna get a rep.

It would be pretty silly if the suspicions about Sosa were linked to Baker.

I was thinking the same thing.

But I'd be happy to criticize him for it.

Just joking around man.

There's only one thing to do when a multimillion dollar business is found to have employees that cheated.

Bonus time!

The only way this effects Volquez is that he will lose roughly $135,000 . Other than that it won't effect him at all. Suspension is over in June, and hes due to come off DL in July at the earliest.

A suspension that doesn't affect your playing time is no suspension at all.

Can you serve a suspension while on the DL? I assume Volquez is on the 60 day DL, which would leave him a few days shy of being able to be "activated"

I don't think you can serve while on the DL, at least with short team suspensions. I remember there was a big argument about Kerry Wood back in 04 and how he was injured and still had to serve 5 games after he was healthy enough to pitch. I think Barrett had the same issue back in 06 after decking AJ Eyechart. I don't think theres a way to prove or enforce that but I think if it's sketchy timing, the league is going to be on you for it.

We're about to have a major media firestorm over how a player who is suspended for PEDs while on the disabled list is treated. Why? Because, pursuant to the drug testing policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Edison Volquez's suspension begins immediately.

This despite the fact that he cannot pitch and would not be able to until at least July, due to recovery from Tommy John surgery. The suspension, in contrast, will be over in June. Sure, his pay will be docked, but he will miss exactly zero games that he otherwise wouldn't have missed.

If you google Volquez right now, it comes up with a live twitter feed...heh.

CBS is reporting it is him

Thanks for the update.

For whatever reason, I have no problem with rehabbing players using PEDs because technically it is for health purposes. Regular Joe Schmo's are prescribed steroids for any number of diseases. I mean my grandma was prescribed steroids to get over a bad cold (of course, she's 85 and probably couldn't top 10 on a fastball).

I remember when Wood was injured in 04 he got suspended and had to wait until he came off the DL to serve it.

Ya but its under the drug testing policy and CBA to allow a player suspended for PED's to start serving it immediately, DL or no DL.

Nevermind it's still that starting pitchers get leveled with the same suspensions as everyday players. They really need to adjust it.
