4/19 - Cubs (Wells) @ Mets (Niese) 6:10 PM CSN+/ESPN/720

Byrd might be the worst hitter in the lineup against LHP(not a bad thing with these 8), and he just got moved up to leadoff. Ramirez is hitting behind Nady. Soto is 7th, below Nady and Soriano. Because everyone is good at hitting LHP it's not going to kill them, but it's poorly put together, and endemic of the rash, small sample thinking that Lou's using.

Yeah, I don't know why Jersey thinks everyone is just complaining about Theriot being moved.

Because it's the only meaningful change. Everybody else just moved one or two spots, which makes no damn difference, and all of the expected people are in the lineup. It's really dumb how freaked out people are by this. Lou just tried to force marmol into a 4 out save situation a couple days after saying he'd never do that. That's far more stupid than this lineup change. He makes these sort of grand statements about lineup changes all the time, but in the end it all ends up being the same thing, a lineup of underwhelming hitters.

If it makes you feel any better, Piniella is leaving the door open on sending Zambrano to the bullpen when Lilly comes back.

Leaving Silva/Gorz in the rotation.

He didn't say Z specifically I don't think, but who knows maybe he was thinking it.

Probably not though, theres no way they would move a pitcher who has had an under 4 ERA every year of his long career to the pen in favor of Tom Gorzelanny.

FYI, this game is on CSN Plus (the Bulls are on CSN tonight).

Damnit. Unless I get lucky and ESPN isn't blacked out, i dont get to watch.

EDIT: And a big WTF on that lineup. I like moving theriot down, but Byrd leading off? Ramirez fifth? Okay.

So now we are spending $18 million a year on a set up guy? Nice use of resources.

Regardless of contract, this would be a colossally stupid idea

I'm aware, but you gotta admit Hendry would look pretty smart when in June both Soriano and Z were getting paid to come off of the bench so to speak.

Contract shouldn't determine where a guy pitches but I agree it would be incredibly dumb.

Mets Lineup tonight

Pagan CF

Castillo 2b

Wright 3b

Bay LF

Francoeur RF

Davis 1b

Barajas C

Cora SS

Niese P

Haven't seen the Cubs one yet and when I see it, I'll throw it up.

Take out Wright and Bay, and that is 1 hell of a craptastic lineup. Then again, it just 2 more good hitters than the Astros had, and we all know how that turned out.

I don't understand the all righties line up. All we hear from Lou is the need for a balanced line up but then he does this.

On a positive note, he has Theriot where he should be in the line up.

If the Cubs had a left-handed starter that was even passable against left-handers then I am sure Lou would consider starting them. Fukudome and Fontenot both struggle quite a bit against left-handers and it doesn't make sense to put in a 650 OPS hitter instead of an 800+ OPS hitter just for the sake of balance. Plus it gives rest to the two players and gives Nady and Baker at-bats.

I realize they don't have a Joe Mauer or Adrian Gonzalez, but lets not act like Jeff Baker is a must play against all left handers. I don't know anything about the Mets pitcher tonight but I know soft tossing lefties stay away from right handers and the Cubs don't seem to change their approach at the plate. But it Lou is going to whine about his line-up and change things around, is it really changing anything by using the same players but at different spots in the batting order?
