Who has said he is a lock for IU? I'm as pleased as anyone that Crean is bringing in talent, but I can also recognize he won't get everyone and that IU is a long way still from being good.

I think IU has a great shot at Ferrell, but it's not a done deal. Let's just see how that plays out and then we will see.

It's not anyone here. More on the scout boards.

Understood.

Scout is a haven for idiots, across all fan bases typically.

unlike rivals/peegs

It is with any message board, that just happen to be the one brought up.

The renovated SIU Arena makes its debut in about an hour on ESPN. Don't lose.

The arena looks pretty good. They got the fans much closer to the court.

i wish illinois would get something like the kohl center where there isn't really a bad seat.

Well, Southern Illinois just lost in about the worst way possible.

That was quite the embarrassing way to lose. A few of my friends were courtside and they said that nobody signaled for a timeout. That's an even worse way to lose.

Again, it's going to be a long year for us. I can't believe how far we've fallen off the map in just three years.

My tv was on espn from this morning so at lunch I was able to rewind and watch that SIU finish. It didn't look like anyone signaled for timeout or yelled for it. Think the ref may have just been anticipating.

Wish this marathon would have been last Tuesday when I was home sick. All of these games have been close.

Good win for IU. The freshmen really looked good. Nine from both Sheehey and Oladipo. Sheehey was very active on the boards. Oladipo was really active on the defensive end. Watford continues to look stronger than last year. Crean's strategy seems to be just play him on the perimeter the first half and then get him down low in the 2nd where he's able to get to the line and/or finish inside.

Verdell was pretty terrible. Was great Sunday night, but fell into one of the games he can't have as the most experienced player on the roster. 2-10 from the field, 7 turnovers. Creek also had a bad night.

I'm willing to give Jones a break tonight. He hasn't had much practice due to the ankle injury and this was IU's third game in five days. I don't know how many games they will win, but you can at least see some promise with this team as it matures.

Thompson should be a load for us to stop. Should be a good game, but talent wise I think the teams are about equal. I give a huge coaching edge to Bruce on this one and I think that is what gets it done.

OSU is going to be a huge force. They were very impressive tonight. Sullinger is giving me nightmares of Sean May, in that he is a hefty undersized (height wise) player who can dominate in college, except he looks way more athletic. I'm not sure there is anyone in the Big Ten who will be able to stop that kid. Hopefully the league will want him despite his height. If OSU can find any sort of PG play they will be scary good.

Looking at the non-conference schedule, they could easily win all of them except for UK, BC, and New Mexico. You're looking at 10-3 if they beat the teams they should and I think they have a shot to upset BC @ BC. Then you're talking about 8-10 in conference plus 1 tourney win to get into the NCAAs, in a conference schedule that only has IU playing Purdue and Michigan St. once each. Of course, that is still probably a long shot to happen as I don't even see IU beating NW, Penn St, and Michigan twice as they would likely need to.

Fran is on the board with his first win. Ugly, ugly game though. UL-Monroe was awful. Hopefully Gatens is back this weekend. They'll need him.

You guys did win by 28. You sound like an Illinois fan.

Indiana isn't making the tournament by beating nothing but bad teams.

Yes, because that's exactly what I said. I said "8-10 in conference" they would need and named 3 teams they would need to beat twice (which I meant to put Iowa instead of NW). If you put 2 and 2 together, that would mean they would have to win 2 more games vs. the other teams in conference.....which would mean 2 wins over good teams. Which means you're once again trying to convince yourself that IU will never be decent again by constantly responding negatively to posts that are even remotely positive about IU.

I think he's saying that 18-20 wins is not going to impress the committee with IU's relatively weak nonconference schedule (and as you mentioned a lucky conference schedule as well). A losing record in conference will not get IU into the NCAA's. They would probably need to go 10-8 in conference and get a Big 10 tournament win to get in. Even that might not be enough (see Penn State in 2008 who was left out with that resume).

The NIT would be a great accomplishment for IU this year. If they can gain SOME post season experience before the real talent starts comes in, then they will be in great shape. I also don't think 18 wins and a losing record in conference is anywhere near what the Selection Committee would like to see. Illinois went 10-8 last season with a win @ Wisconsin but was still snubbed.

I don't know. That would be a 19-14 record. I'd imagine they'd get some benefit of the doubt, assuming 8-10 puts them 7th or so in conference (8-10 would have been 7th last year) and based on the fact that the program was so down and out just 2 years ago. And with IU's basketball history, I could see that being a boost.

But either way, I even said it wasn't likely to happen so this conversation has taken way more of everyone's time than it should have.
