I love you guys. I really do. I was trying to add to the conversation, explain that a recruit has an interest in a school, which clearly some of you didn't know. Instead of conversation, we get comments about funny warm ups and quotes taken out of context. This is exactly why I made the point that I avoid this thread. Why not just call it Illini basketball 2010-11?

Sycophants. That's a good one.

It is the nature of the beast man. You can't enter this thread without a sense of humor if you are an IU fan. Of course it is going to trend towards Illini talk, that is just the way it is being on a Chicago oriented sports site. I won't lie and say I haven't gotten mad and sniped back at 'em in the past but end of the day you have to be like RMK and just relax and enjoy it sometimes. :P

IUs season opener was decent. I thought the Hoosiers played pretty decent defense. Held the team to 60 points, but 22 of them came on free throws thanks to a really tightly called game, which went to the benefit of the road team as IU didn't even bother to look to score inside for the most part.

Watford played on the outside most of the first half, but was a lot better when they got him inside. Jones III played the point the entire time he was in there (with Moore getting the other PG minutes, UGH!). While, Hulls excelled in the "catch-n-shoot" role, Jones predictably turned the ball over 5 times (all on stupid passes) to only 2 assists. Overall, can't complain much about 22 assists on 30 baskets, especially when 4 of those non-assisted baskets came on offensive rebound put backs. But they still don't value the ball and turned it over 24 times.

Overall, the team looks very athletic. Freshman, Oladipo can run and jump all day. Creek will get back to that point probably right around conference season. Watford looks bigger and stronger, but still needs to work on muscling the ball into the hoop down low, even when he gets fouled. Pritchard looked more athletic, and was a beast on the boards, but can't stop fouling people. Still the same inconsistencies. Still have lapses on D way too often. Still trying to make passes with opposite color jerseys in between the ball and the man being passed to. Still only sometimes hits the boards.

Stick around. When Illinois starts losing games this thread gets really entertaining.

Almost as fun as watching Robbie Hummel tear an ACL. If you missed the first two guys don't worry he'll be back next year.

Classy as usual.

UCLA might actually have a point guard in Lazeric Jones. He was Derrick Rose's backup at Simeon.

It's not as fun when he isn't here to get fired up.

Thank god the basketball team plays tonight. We'll get to see how much of a soft spot Bruce has for Southern. I'm not too worried about upset potential here, but I do think Southern will give us a game during the first half. After that I think our depth and talent will wear them down.

Is there TV for tonight's game?

thoughts on the game: we are scary.

too much balance, many ways to beat you and all coming at you at once.

oh, and demetri mccamey is the best player in the big ten.

I don't even think if Robbie Hummel was alive that would be debatable. DMac is cold. Billy Cole had a rough game. Kept getting beat off of the dribble and struggled on offense. That said Paul and Ricmond give great energy off of the bench.

Oh and when Crandall gets more under control he is going to be a monster, that is one quick first step.

guess who was at the southern illinois drubbing?

that's right, Gary Harris.

That makes no sense. He's a lock for IU. A Zeller is going there, now all great players will want to go there.

Who has said he is a lock for IU? I'm as pleased as anyone that Crean is bringing in talent, but I can also recognize he won't get everyone and that IU is a long way still from being good.

I think IU has a great shot at Ferrell, but it's not a done deal. Let's just see how that plays out and then we will see.

It's not anyone here. More on the scout boards.
