im just gonna have to hope Congress lowers the anti-trust boom on this.

i dont see why they would. it looks to be really just kansas getting screwed, and the texas schools maybe flying a little farther east or west than they used to.

lol at the sec president saying "the sec is what the other conferences are striving to be."

there's been talk if there's a money grab to form conferences that freeze out a lot of schools, Congress might say it violates antitrust laws and threaten the "guilty" schools with a loss of their tax-exempt status.

the texas coaches and the whole state of texas is full of [expletive]. i hope they burn to the ground.

1. Your school still has a chance at landing on its feet.

2. Your school started this by lifting its skirt and wafting its muff scent over to the Big 10 in the first place.

On Sportscenter, Chip Brown of orangebloods.com says Texas President told their coaches that he did everything he could to keep the Big XII together and was unsuccessful. Says all six teams offered by the PAC 10 (Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Colorado) will go to the PAC 10 and the Big 12 is dead.

EDIT: Here's a story about it: http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1092612

That's unbelievable.

The ESPN.com story about this says that the new Pac-16 would likely split into 8 team divisions (the old Pac-8 as the West, with ASU and Arizona joining the new 6 as the East) and would probably not play a championship game but instead push for each division champ to get a BCS auto-bid. The schedule would likely have each division playing each other as well as 2 games from the other division per year (the Pac-10 already plays 9 conference games so existing membership wouldn't have to tweak its schedules much).

The funniest part about all this is that the Big 12 would have to stay together at least through the 2011-12 academic year. That's not awkward.

For the record, I'm sure KU and Missouri will be fine. Worst case for KU is it joins the Big East to keep its hoops cash cow in a competitive league (because I don't see how no Big East team gets raided at some point soon), and Missouri, while not exactly a blue-chip stock, is a big enough name (carrying a big enough TV market) that it will get a sniff from somebody. I expect the hot rumor after this to have Missouri following Notre Dame into the Big 14 (though I don't think that's what will actually happen, that'll be the rumor).

It's K-State and Iowa State that are screwed. MWC? WAC? MAC? Sun Belt?

As someone said on Twitter tonight, the moral from all this is that maybe we shouldn't put numbers in our major conference's names anymore.

Not really. Mizzou had nothing to do with the Big 10 deciding to expand.

I think the two divisions should be called the In-N-Out Burger and Whataburger divisions.

WFNI radio in Indianapolis is reporting that Notre Dame, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Maryland are all Big Ten bound. That would make Michigan's chances at doing anything at basketball ever again even slimmer.

Maryland? The Big Ten has enough bad accents already, why that douchebag school?

What the hell is going on in CFB.

This is crazy.

If they go to 16 they should do that relegation thing, where the 10th place team every year gets bumped into the bottom 6, who then play for a shot at joining the big boys the next year.

KU is pretty screwed......I don't know about academics, but in terms of athletics, they don't bring much with football, while no one wants their basketball team to come in and destroy their conference

Kentucky didn't ruin the SEC by going on probation over and over again, I don't see why KU would.

Thanks for posting this. I like to know what rumor the media is going to run with for the next 24 hours as early as possible.

No way that rumor will last 24 hours. There will be at least 5 new rumors during that time frame.

Apparently Chip Brown said that Texas and five other Big 12 schools accepted invitations to the Pac 10 on Sportscenter a little bit ago.
