i've always thought that gilbert would make a great DE in a 3-4. if we went that way, tommie and gilbert could play the ends with harrison at NT, the aging urlacher in the middle, which would help his game out, with briggs next to him and roach and jamar williams on the outside.

QFT, except get a better NT than Harrison.

well, yeah, but i'm just talking about guys on our roster right now. a new NT would be nice if that happened.

I've been thinking of ways to make the 3-4 work with this team for a while, but it would never happen. They have depth and quantity at LB, and no great lineman.

i think we lack a 3-4 NT and good ones are hard to find.

One possibility to play NT that is already on the Bears roster is Anthony Adams. As long as the Bears chose more of a Bum Phillips/Dick LaBeau 3-4 he would be more than suitable until a long term replacement is found. Factor in that this a deep draft at DT it should not be too difficult to find a good NT in the later rounds of the draft.

Denver got 1st Rd 2009, 1st Rd 2010, and 3rd Rd 2009. The Bears still have their Rd 3 2010.

you just said the Broncos got the 3rd round 2009

That is correct. What is wrong is that I meant the Bears have their 2010 3rd rounder.

I would think that would be obvious from the context of the posts, but I guess not.

Chan Gailey's the new rumor, I guess.

Add Chan Gailey to the list of candidates to become the Bears' offensive coordinator, meaning the team might add a third former NFL head coach to their staff.

ESPN reported that Indianapolis Colts receivers coach Clyde Christensen is also on the Bears' radar. Smith also is expected to interview the San Diego Chargers' Rob Chudzinski, who was the Cleveland Browns' offensive coordinator for two seasons before returning to the Chargers as assistant head coach/tight ends before this season.

So we've heard at least a half dozen candidates for OC, and only one for DC, who isn't coming here. What are they up to?

Good question, I've been asking myself the same thing.

A very sad and scary statement, but unfortunately one that I think is true. Whether we like it or not, we are really hamstrung here. Who wants to come in with a lame duck head coach? Probably not anyone with a good name. Unless they think that they can benefit by this and eventually become the next head coach. But even that's a double edged=sword. because if they truly make a difference, then it's likely all they're doing is saving Lovie's job for him.

Hiring retreads or hiring a little known guy who we hope can turn things around offensively is about the only options we have right now. I am resigned to the fact that 2010 is going to suck and hope that it's enough to get Angelo, Lovie, and the rest of the staff out of here. If this IS the case, then I wouldn't be disappointed if we aren't all that active in free agency THIS year, with the intention of giving the new guys in 2011 alot of money to work with, so a complete overhaul can be done, if needed......

The even scarier part for me is that they could actually win a couple more games next year. Football is a funny business -- the ball bounces a few times your way, bingo: you win.

And I wouldn't put it past these guys to take a 9-7 one-and-done season as a sign of progress and keep people around for even longer.

AVC: Have you read Siege #1 yet?

LB: No, I've seen the posters for it at the store, but I haven't read it.

AVC: You know they blow up Soldier Field in the first couple pages.

LB: Really. [Pauses.] Good! Maybe we can get some good field turf or good grass then. [Laughs.] Okay, sweet deal, I'm gonna have to check that one out.

According to the National Football Post, Ravens QBs coach Hue Jackson is a candidate for the Bears' offensive coordinator job.

Jackson was also the Bengals' WRs coach during T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Ochocinco's primes, and was an underrated offensive coordinator under Bobby Petrino with Atlanta in 2007. He'd be a strong "fall-back" choice.

(Impersonating Bob Barker): Hue Jackson, come on down for your shot to turn down the Bears.

Caught part of Boers and Bernstein where they were discussing a report in the Trib that said Tice will have significant say in the structure of the offense." Combine that with Lovie clearly still having a significant say in the defense and these coordinator positions don't seem that desirable.

LOL, they're going to run this whole thing by committe. Who needs a coordinator?

You've seen the player huddle on the sidelines. Now the Bears are going to invent the assistant huddle to vote on plays & defenses.

Supah Bowl.

College of Coaches anyone? That sure worked out well for the Cubs.

I don't understand what the Bears are doing either, Lovie wants to run, run, run the ball. If that's the case why trade for Cutler and has Lovie been watching the playoffs at all?

Yes, he watched it work for the Jets so every other team winning by passing the ball must be a fluke.

Lovie just says that because he know that's what the media and fans want to hear. It doesn't really mean anything.

We're quite predictable. Throw in tough defense and "Bear weather" and we're set.

And I'm not sure if it's been posted yet, but an article on the Tribune's site confirms that the Bears will not receive a compensatory draft pick for the Gaines Adams death.

Hiring Mike Nolan as our DC would completely change how I view our offseason.

Prepare to keep your views unchanged.

Yeah...sounds like he'll end up in Miami.
