Bump, but Tiger dumped Steve Williams a few weeks back and now the news is public. Williams seems a little ticked. I guess Tiger is just going for a fresh start. It will be interesting to see if Williams uses this to inform the world about how much he did or did not really know about Tiger's affairs.

Stevie probably got a little extra to keep a lid on those types of details.

Good, maybe I'll actually watch some golf again. I know I'm far from alone on this, but he's the only player I care to watch.

He's not the only one I watch, but I definitely watch more when he's playing.

Same. Hope he gets back to winning again as well.

Pretty amazing story. Adam Scott steps aside and gives his caddy all of the glory. Even more interesting that Stevie won more than twice as much as Tiger in this event.

I'm siding with Tiger, or should I say against Stevie on this one. It was silly for CBS to interview Scott on the green and then immediately interview Williams. I know why they wanted to do it, because it's a juicy story, but the classy thing for Williams to do would have been to decline to be interviewed. It's not about him, and he should have realized that. Instead he did the classless thing, which was to run his mouth about this being the greatest week of his life (doesn't anyone really believe that?) and then later keep disputing how he was fired. Comes off as petty.

Stevie deserves all the crap he's getting. Wow. Caddies are so overrated. People win tournaments with their girlfriends caddying for them. Get over yourself.

And Tiger probably deserves some of it too. Not too many people around seem to have a good relationship with Tiger these days. Maybe he is really a huge a$$hole. I know Stevie, Elin, and Hank Haney all think so.

But that said, I really want him to get back to form. Golf is so boring without him.

I'm pretty sure I know what Tiger needs to lighten up a bit.

(sorry for the obvious joke. too many dfh90)

Maybe I don't get it because I've never been a big golfer, but the Tiger Woods worship is really bizarre. I mean really, golf isn't exciting unless he's winning a bunch of tournaments?

I don't know if it's worship, it's just a respect for the amazing things he's managed to do along with a desire to watch something special. That's probably the biggest part. If he wins 18 or 20 or whatever number of majors, it's a major accomplishment and folks who have watched the whole way (I was 18 when he won his first major, I think) are, I don't want to say "part of it," but it's like an old timer telling you how Bob Gibson used to pitch or how Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita used to play. You were there, in a way.

Otherwise golf is an odd thing. No geographic or other obvious reason to root for a particular golfer (except Gary Woodland, KU guy, for me). It's something for golf fans to attach to.

There's plenty of other sports that fit this category though. Nascar, tennis, boxing...

I agree with your first paragraph though.

Golf is probably the most wide open of any of those though. In Nascar, your driver is in every race and there's so much variation in the standings that even if your drive struggles throughout the entire race he could still come up with a good finish. Tennis is always dominated by a few so you can pick a favorite and root for them against the other favorites. Boxing is much the same way where people only tend to watch when people they know are on. In golf, you have so many people who could be in contention at the end who you've never heard of, and your particular favorite is not statistically likely to be in contention at the end of a tournament.

Personally, I thought it was fascinating that Tiger fired his caddie, with my own thought process being that he did it because he's lost his ability to dominate like he did before and places blame on his caddie instead of his own distractions, only to watch the caddie move on to another golfer (who doesn't have a bunch of outside interference going on) and immediately win a tournament.

Adding to the fascination is that Adam Scott supposedly had amazing talent, but couldn't put it together. Tiger's old caddie comes along and what happens.

I don't really know all the details to the parting of ways, as I haven't been following closely at all, so maybe Stevie forced the parting of ways or did something to deserve to be canned. Kind of bizarre how it has played out so far, though.

I was surprised by how openly Stevie criticized Tiger for banging women and was kind of surprised the relationship didn't end sooner.

After having a chance to reflect on his actions and words, Williams conceded, during an interview with FoxSports.com from Atlanta, that he was "a bit over the top".

"I had a lot of anger in me about what happened [with Woods] and it all came out."

Oh, and this isn't the first time that Steve's been bitter at someone he previously caddied for....

Which is more than Tiger can say.
