I'm not the first and definitely won't be the last to ask this, but should Tiger be on the Ryder Cup team as a captain's pick?

And how much weight does his performance in Kohler this week impact that decision?

I think you take him no matter what, but he may decline if he thinks he'll be a detriment.

No. Not unless he has a great week at Whistling Straits. His play right now combined with the distraction would leave him off the team if I were captain.

I agree that's probably the smart thing to do if winning is the only goal. But if exposure and TV ratings are another goal, and we all know there are, there will be a lot of pressure on Pavin to at least offer Woods one of the captain's picks.

He's also the best player. You can add another nobody to the bottom of the roster in his place, but you're probably better off seeing if Tiger can regain his form in a couple months. Maybe he needs a team atmosphere to do it instead of the world against Tiger situation he's been in since Thanksgiving.

And the match format might help him out...easier to beat one guy than the field...maybe?

Maybe his teammates won't want to have to deal with him and the drama?

I think the real story is that Tiger appears to be a bigger jerk than ever.

Seriously, for someone whose claiming to get back in touch with his Buddhist roots, his press conferences are unbelievably curt. He's cutting off reporters with snide remarks all the time. I don't mind it, it's actually kind of funny, but no one seems to be mentioning it.

So I work at the resort that Sponsors Corey Pavin on the tour. He visits here often and is an extrememly nice guy. I asked him last month about Tiger on the squad and he looked at me and genuinely said that he would take a young guy like Rickey Fowler over Tiger if he had to make the call right then. If anything since that time, his decision has gotten easier.

I think if I just shot the worst tournament of my professional career, I probably wouldn't have much to say about it either.

Pavin just said "Of course I would pick Tiger since he's the number one player in the world." Maybe there is a private and public Ryder Cup discussion, or maybe you were talking to someone who looks like Corey Pavin. :D

The more thought I give to it, the more you're right. He's still the most talented player in the world but his mind has been gone. He played last weekend like he didn't care. Maybe the new swing coach will help him. I like Tiger and I want him to get back close to at least his 2008 level. I just don't know if it will happen this year. Pavin basically has to pick him. The wildcard is if he doesn't qualify for the FedEx and is off for 6 weeks prior to the Cup.

Phil, Mahan, Stricker, Furyk and Kim will all qualify and I like them all on the team. Overton is a douche but he's been playing really well and he'll qualify so he's on. Kuchar will qualify and so will Glover. So my captain's picks would be Tiger, Dustin Johnson, Cink and either Barnes or O'Hair. I would probably lean to O'Hair but Barnes has been better this year.

So that would make my team: Phil, Mahan, Stricker, Furyk, Kim, Overton, DJ, Tiger, Cink, Barnes. I could see O'Hair bumping Cink although I wouldn't. Just don't put Fowler on there.

Today Pavin said that the Jim Gray interview that had him saying he would choose Tiger was misleading and that he did not say that. Who knows what to believe now.

If Tiger doesn't improve soon, he shouldn't be picked for the Ryder Cup. He is 119th in Fed Ex Cup Points and about 160th in scoring average. Yes he is the number one player in the world, but that is after accumulating years of great playing and is not indicative of his current ability. There are just plenty of better people to pick. Plus Tiger hasn't played particularly well in the Ryder Cup at 7-11-2 even though he is holding down 10th place for Ryder Cup Points. But even that 10th place in the Ryder Cup standings does not reflect the fact that most of Tiger's points have come from last year. I still want to see how Tiger does this week. Woods has played well in the majors this year, and if he plays well at the PGA Championship, Pavin might pick him because Tiger is usually a great big stage golfer.

they just can't wait for tiger to go away and golf to be ruled by a revolving door of uncharismatic random faceless white players again.

Who is "they"? Most everyone in golf has made a ton of money because of Tiger.

I must have missed the green font, otherwise this makes no sense...

what, you're saying that golf wasn't a revolving door of uncharismatic random faceless white dudes before tiger got there or...? i'm confused.

....Making a whole lot less money.

So the top 8 are Mickelson, Mahan, Bubba Watson, Furyk, Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Overton and Kuchar. 9-12 are Kim, Glover, Zach Johnson and Tiger.

I'd like to see Tiger, Zach, Kim and Cink as the captain's picks.
