i thought the exact same thing. i completely hate this trade, but i would like it better if i found out we were also getting some cash/a prospect and we were going to release silva tomorrow.

Does Bradley get a pass? No. He's a jackass and he could have handled things better. But to pretend that we didn't let people stack the deck against him... to pretend that we as fans aren't at least partly to blame for the fact that we have to watch Carlos Silva pitch in a Cubs uniform next season... well, you'd be fooling yourself.

Sorry man, but "we" the fans are not to blame. There were small pockets of idiot fans who contributed to the problem, but I sure as heck didn't participate, and the vast majority of people I saw in Wrigley in the 2 games I attended immediately following that meltdown weren't participating either.

Are you really trying to argue semantics?

And your vast majority is different from everybody else I've talked to.

A couple of people confirmed the trade, and still no other names have been mentioned. I can't believe this actually looking like a straight swap. Un-[expletive]-believable.

Bah. Opponents are currently hitting .400 against Silva in the Venezuelan Winter League.

Seriously!?!?!?

This better not be a straight up trade. Look at this way, lets say the cubs released Bradley outright. It would be as if Hendry went out there and signed Silva to a two year worth 4 Million while silva was coming off a shoulder injury. Who the f--ing world would do that.

I don't believe it is semantics at all to excuse myself from the blame.

And while the majority may be in favor of trading Milton now, my point was that at the time, at Wrigley field, the majority were definitely not booing his every move. There were 2 guys in a crowd of a couple hundred near me being loud and obnoxious toward Milton. It may have seemed like a crowd hassling him, but it was literally 2 guys. It was not the majority booing and making things worse.

Do you have a link for that? I'd love to see

The pitcher has been down in Venezuela throwing in that country's winter league. I'm told his trademark sinker, missing last season, is looking more sharp. The injury may have had something to do with that, but who knows? He's given up a .400 batting average to opponents in the nine innings he's thrown down there. The Cubs obviously see something they like. Yes, they would likely have taken a warm body to trade away Bradley, who has burned all of his Chicago bridges. But they would not have taken an injured player.

Wow. Out of all the comparable contracts for Bradley, we literally took on the worst one, by far. Whats even more sad, is Hendry IS good at making trades. Which goes to show exactly how badly they took themselves out of any sort of bargaining position, with this whole fiasco, starting with the suspension.

I would have much rather just DFA'd him, than this crap. I can't even begin to fathom what kind of BS Hendry must be handing Ricketts about Silva......

@PWSullivan: Cubs getting $9 million from Seattle, so Mariners wind up paying them $6 million plus Silva when salaries offset.

Hendry probably likes Silva's pitches and believes he has the potential to rebound. I guess.
