Yeah, I don't even have a problem with the actual suspension. It's that it's being carried farther than just the suspension that angers me.

If your teenage kid sneaks out the window late at night and you catch him, grounding him for the next month or so doesn't seem completely unreasonable. Grounding him for a year, making the hall closet his new room and selling all of his stuff is just overkill. And that's only part of it. Everyone else is getting punished, too. It's like that family trip to Disneyland being cancelled because one kid did something to piss you off. Punish everyone rather than make the bad kid stay with his mean uncle while you all go and enjoy yourselves.

And I'd kind of like some clarification on the Cubs forcing Bradley to speak with the press. Did they really force this issue? If so, what was the reason behind it?

I agree but what if he burned down his school?

My point being do we really know the extent of Bradley's transgressions? Has there been any uproar from players over the situation or the suspension? There was one quote (Dempster I think???) saying he would be welcomed back next year - but that sounds a little like a diplomatic statement to me. I don't know if there was anything else??

I just think there may be more behind the scenes than we know.

The trick is you'd have to have somebody whom the public despises more than Bradley. Otherwise, you're just rallying them against Bradley again.

How about we just tell Bradley to tell reporters he "found Jesus" during the off season and thus everything is different now. Aren't people still supposed to take that excuse at face value without question? :-))

My point being, is that people have already made up their minds to hate Bradley. Even when that hilarious jokester Ryan Dempster, comes out and says we'd welcome him back, he must be lying just cause he's such a nice guy. When Jake Fox gets traded and says that Bradley helped him out and was nothing but nice, well he's just saying the right things.

But when Ryan Theriot said things are different in the clubhouse, burn that [expletive] witch.

I suppose we can just hope that they never had any interest in Ankiel or Podsednik at all, and all the talk was just to scare people into accepting Bradley staying.

My bet is that 95% of Cubs fans would take Podsednik over Bradley in a heartbeat. Even if he cost more money and we had to pay all of Bradley's salary. Remember, there are many people who think the Cubs should just cut him. "Scotty Pods is tough and scrappy, just the kind of player we need."

For Ankiel, I'd drop that to roughly 75%.

And those are those stereotypical idiot Cubs fans who know nothing about baseball and go to the games just because its considere the trendy thing to do.

I fully agree. I'd much rather keep Bradley and have them deal with any side effects of that then bring in either of them, or most of the other choices.

However, that percentage of fan is still there and they do spend money on games, jerseys, hats and they like. I know you've been there, but go look at cubs.com for a great example of a huge chunk of the Cubs fan base.

Don't forget, there are also a few, at least, sportswriters that cover the Cubs that would feel the same way.

You don't win baseball games by making fans and sportswriters happy.

i refuse to think about words like correlation and causation, all i know is that the cubs haven't won [expletive] since we pissed off phil rogers

perhaps he should be the new gm? just spitballing

Podsednik better not end up in a Cubs uniform.

He will, i guarantee it and so will Joel Pineiro, who's asking for a Wolf type contract. Hendry will overpay, you just watch.

I'm not saying Hendry should. I'm saying that a huge chunk of Cub fans will applaud any move to get rid of Bradley, even if it's to the detriment of the team. And bringing in a Podsednik type player would be look at, by Cub fans in general, as going back to baseball as it should be played.

Then they'll find some other target when all of these moves are shown to be crap, unfortunately by the Cubs being out of the race with 6 weeks left in the season.

The thing is, almost all of those fans that would be happy to see Bradley gone would still be showing up to the games and buying the merchandise if he was back.

Sorry bud, its just how Hendry operates. Last year the player i least wanted was Bradley and Hendry signed him. I never in a million years thought they'd pay that much for miles and Hendry paid it. I never thought they'd trade Derosa away without getting Peavy and he ended up doing so. When you try to predict Hendry's moves you have to think of worse case scenario and not best case. Granderson, Cameron, Halladay, etc were all best case. Worst Case is Podsenick, Byrd (Yes Byrd, dont overrate the guy after his career year), Overpaying Piniero, etc. We'll see what happens but I doubt Hendry pulls off anything good. The best move he made was not trading away Castro, Cashner, Vitters, etc. Though i still would've traded Vitters for Granderson.

I'm not going to go through all 39 pages to see if it was mentioned, but in looking at the contracts the different FA signed last year, I saw something in Bradleys contract about a buyout in 2011. Basically it said even if the various option clauses kick in, they can still buyout his last year for $2 mil. Is this true, or did I read something that was a guess or fabrication?

If it's true, why would they even contemplate getting rid of him for anything that even comes close to sending more to another team than they could spend this year, and then buyout his contract? If they were talking about sending over $13 mil with him, that's what this year plus a buyout would cost. Keep him this year then cut him loose if that's the case.

Oh, I know. As long as they were winning, they'd forget, at least until he said something stupid. Or if they started losing. But yes, they'd be filling Wrigley daily.

This is all Cot's has on his 2011 option:

# 2011 may become $12M club option with $2M buyout if:

* Bradley has more than 75 days on DL in 2009, or

* Bradley is on DL at end of 2009 season with specific injury and not on active roster by 4/15/2010

# if 2011 becomes a club option, it may be guaranteed again if:

* MVP (1st -3rd) in 2010, or

* any two of the following five:

o All Star in 2010, unless Bradley is on DL at end of 2010 with specific injury

o MVP (4th-8th) in 2010

o Silver Slugger in 2010

o WS MVP in 2009 or 2010

o LCS MVP in 2009 or 2010
