If I do, am I a racist?

Until now the only person who thought race had anything to do with this ugly mess was Bradley himself. I guess we can add your name now too. Well you're both way wrong.

Yeah, if you quit following the Cubs because Bradley is here I'd bet heavily on you being a racist, or an idiot at the very least.

Seriously, I'm only the 2nd person to think race played any part in this? How do you come up with such incredibilyi ignorant statements?

So why didn't a racist like me quit following the Cubs when they had Sosa and Dunston and Dawson and Fergie Jenkins and Billy Williams etc etc. on the team?

You realize those players are the same race as Bradley right?

I'm sorry, did you quit following the Cubs? Did I call you a racist? Can you read?

Find me a person who quit following the Cubs due to the presence of Milton Bradley, and refuses to come back to following the Cubs until he returns, then I will call that person a racist. You are writing about them on this website right now so it's pretty safe to assume you haven't quite following them. Even if you are so clueless as to think only Milton Bradley and myself think race played any part in what happened here.

I read just fine, thanks, and frankly I'm flabbergasted at the crap you're spewing here.

Dislike Bradley = not a racist.

Dislike Bradley enough to stop following the Cubs = racist.

Un-freaking-believeable the bat[expletive] crazy nonsense people think up sometimes.

these comments are basically doing exactly the opposite of what you want them too. you just look more racist.

Not to anyone with a functioning brain and a grasp of what the term racist means they don't.

Do you really think Bradley hasn't been told to do this during his career? I don't think his teammates are the problem because I think most would deal with it and go play ball, but when you disrespect the manager, coaches, front office, media, and fans in an entertainment venue, you've got to resolve the problem. A lot of posters are forgetting that Chicago is a 2-team city and negative publicity aimed at one team while positive publicity is aimed at the other could jeopardize finances for years to come.

No it wouldn't. The Cubs aren't going to lose money because Milton Bradley is around. They aren't going to lose fans to the White Sox. The only fans that would leave the Cubs because Milton is around would be racist white people, and I don't see any racist white people who are Cubs fans rushing to support the White Sox.

The Cubs will lose fans, and money, if they wallow around in mediocrity much longer. If they go back to the 2005/2006 let's just make sure we're all nice guys who get along no matter how much we lose ways, then they will lose fans and money.

The way to make money in Chicago sports is to win. Wrigley didn't become the place it is today until after 1998, and it didn't become the year-in-year-out sellout until 2003 when fans were given the taste of what could be. Nice guy teams and PR strategies don't sell tickets. Winning does.

Wow you're way out of bounds playing the race card there.

Being turned off by Bradley's antics doesn't make a fan a racist. It's not his skin color that's creating this animosity.

I'm turned off my his antics as well. But I'm not going to stop being a Cubs fan because he's a around? Would you?

If I do, am I a racist?

If you'd really stop supporting the Cubs because of Milton Bradley being on the team; yeah, you probably are.

Why exactly is Sammy on that list?

Er, I'm inclined to disagree with both of you as to the distinction you're drawing. I think there is some confusion here between nationality and race. It makes perfect sense for Sammy Sosa to be included in that list. Being an "African-American" versus being a Dominican of African descent doesn't put Sammy in a different racial category.

It's a cloudy area, but calling davearm2 out for including Sammy out for the reasons I have outlined (please correct me if I'm wrong on those) is... well, inaccurate.

There's NO trade out there that would improve our team. Hendry signed him for 3 years we might as well deal with his BS and use the guy. To trade him for Burrell or Silva would only make this team worse and it's pretty bad already. I fully expect not to make the playoffs again.

no one had even called you racist or even implied that you were racist. you fit none of the terms of the so-called racists he was describing, but for some reason you came swooping in with "IM NOT A RACIST, CHECK IT OUT THAT'S DUMB IM NOT EVEN CLOSE TO RACIST."

Why would a team take him on irrevocable waivers when they can have him now for next-to-nothing and Hendry will pay most of his contract? As for including prospects with Bradley in a deal, the obvious answer is that it gets this sad saga over with and the Cubs can move on. As I stated, it's not going to be pretty, but there is a possibility that Marte, Swisher, or Cabrera could help by playing a role on the Cubs.

I think part of the benefit biittner was seeing was that if nobody claims him, it potentially demonstrates to Bradley that his value might not be what he thinks it is. Maybe it opens a door to sitting down with him and explaining that mending fences and playing with the Cubs in 2010 is his best option.

Not sure that would be the outcome, but I think that is part of what biittner was saying.

Yes, that's what I was getting at. It may be a long shot but it's better than paying him to play somewhere else.

Probably not the time or place to get into it, but I doubt he was purely of African descent. I could be wrong about that, though. However, there seems to be enough doubt about it to not include him on the list when others like Jacque Jones, LaTroy Hawkins, Corey Patterson or dozens of others could have been used instead.

It's certainly possible, but there's not much reason that we have to believe that Sosa is any less African than those players. This is a murky issue that has no right answer, I just don't buy the idea of calling someone out on including Sammy Sosa on that list when we really have no basis to do so.

LOL so now we have another class of racist -- those that point out when others have incorrectly attributed racism to a situation that involves none.

The lunacy in this thread has officially reached mind-numbing proportions.

if you had just pointed it out, it wouldn't have been as obvious. but instead you assumed he attributed it to you (he didn't. at all.)

i'm good at figuring things out. just give it up.

If we're doing the Burrell for Bradley swap, I'd honestly prefer to just keep Burrell as a bat on the bench. Instead of swapping him for Castillo, I'd rather keep him as a fourth outfielder and right-handed platoon partner for Kosuke. I realize he has basically no experience in right field, but his bat against lefties only might be enough to cover that. And we'll have Fuld as a defensive replacement for the times that we have a late-inning lead with Burrell out there.

It's not ideal (or even all that good) but I think I'd prefer it to trading for Castillo.

Whereas my rationale was that why include Sammy when that would be murky when there are plenty of other players that are more direct comparisons? :)

Now wait 10 mins so somebody else can come out and say, "No trade is imminent". Just get the [expletive] done and over with, its going to be a horrible [expletive] deal no matter what so just get it done and move on.

There's no chance of that because need to dump some of Burrell salary now so they can go after Cameron or whoever in CF. They won't have all that money tied up to Burrell with him being a 4th outfielder. Plus I don't think Luis Castillo is a option anymore, since the Mets don't want Burrell. I'm basically for whatever saves the Cubs money so they can get Mike Cameron and some other pieces.

Wow... not wanting to follow the cubs because Milton is on the team implies that you're probably a racist......? Wow just wow, the idiots we have on this board. If you can't relate to racism or haven't been a victim of it, then you need to shut your mouth if you're implying garbage like this. Sorry but idiot ideas like this, that a fan who doesn't support a team because of a player implies he's racist because the player is black, is basically the problem with racism nowadays because people use the term so loosely. Man some of you are just dumb or are just not in touch with society if you actually feel this is racist. I'm Latino and if Dave decided not to be a cubs fan because Zambrano was on the team, i wouldn't feel its a racist gesture. Like i said if you call something like this racist or if you've never experienced it, then Shut up. Lets get back on topic about Milton cause clearly some people are swaying this thread into something completely dumb.

I'm just going to pretend that the hold up was Tampa acquiring Soriano so they could send him to us for Bradley.

ha ha man i wish that were true.
