Anyway I think it will interesting to see what happens if Paul is shopped. I would bet one of the teams that has been building for this next offseason would pull the trigger give up a crap ton to guarantee they get an elite player.

If you were the GM for the Thunder would you give up some of your young pieces and who?

obviously russ has to go in CP3 comes this way. Would have to be something like russ, an expiring, our 2 firsts this year and something else I guess. I don't know, I cant imagine how to make it match up

Would you do that with an extention?

OKC isn't realistic. The teams willing to give up a lot will be teams that have a realistic shot at keeping Paul and getting him ro sign before free agency. I don't see OKC as one of those teams. If Paul hits the open market I think he would be the most sought after following LeBron. I think teams would want him before Wade and the others.

The thunder beat down the wizards tonight, nice win to get us over .500 13 games in. No one was predicting the thunder to be this good

Durant had 35, westbrook 26, harden 25, green 19, sefolosha 16. I LOVE having a young team!

Harden's last two games he has scored 24 and 25. He was 6-7 on 3's yesterday and 4-6 tonight. This kid can straight up shoot. I am so happy we didn't get the chance to draft that tall uncoordinated looking kid(can't remember his name) I can't remember if someone said earlier in this thread that harden couldn't shoot, but if you did that is nowhere near correct.

Durant is a monster. That sums up every game for him.

Sefolosha made arenas look awful, he shot around 30%. I love watching him play defense, he's sick. Even though 16 points out of him is kind of a surprise but i'll take it.

Also, how do the wizards not win more games? They have a SICK starting lineup; Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Miller, Haywood. I guess they have too many people who want to shoot or whatever. I'm just happy that OKC doesn't have a team like that.

They never play together. Every week either Arenas, Butler or Jamison gets hurt. Hard to build chemistry and find a way to play and share when you never play together. They also don't have much depth.

They aren't strictly starter-backup anymore since they are combining for 55 minutes but Scola and Landry give the Rockets whats got to be one of the best PF combos in the game. They are combining for 30 points and 15+ rebounds while shooting 53%.

The Nets are 0-13 after losing to the Knicks.

Are the New York area teams playing themselves out of contention for big free agents by being so bad?

I think the Knicks have played themselves out of the LeBron sweepstakes with all the controversy and non-basketball headlines. The Nets likely won't get anyone for the reason you said. There are enough teams out there with a crap ton of cap space for next season that none of the top FA's are going to go to a team where they would have no help.

The thunder, pistons, blazers, and the knicks have the most cap room for next year. The pistons have to make a decision to re-sign hamilton or not. If they do, their cap room will drop significantly. The blazers have to either re-sign roy and aldridge or let them go. most likely they will resign both and then they'll fall into negative cap room space.

So most likely the two teams that will have the most cap room are the knicks and the thunder since both of them don't have to worry about anyone to resign. For the thunder green and durant don't have to be resigned til 2012 and westbrook til 2013. The knicks just don't have anyone that is any good. The thunder are around 20-30 million under the cap and the knicks have about 10-20 million after some people leave both teams. The thunder right now are 17mil over and after this season Etan Thomas (8mil) and Earl Watson (3mil) are coming off the books, so that opens up another 11 mil. I don't care enough about the knicks to do any reasearch. These two are the two teams with the most flexibility for the big 2010 free agent market

EDIT: I guess the grizzlies have a lot of room too. Although the place where i found all my information was before the 2009 free agents signed. So i don't know exactly how much they spent last offseason.

ANOTHER EDIT: The thunder are also lose ollie, bowen, and livingston which opens up another 4mil

The Rockets are well over the cap this year but are only on the board for 20 million for sure next season (not 100% sure on this as there are conflicting reports from many different sites). Now that is certainly not how much we will end up having. Yao has a 17,689,100 player option that he has said he will taking (feels obligated because of his injuries). Then we a $3 million team option on Landry that we will be taking. We then have qualifying offer on Kyle Lowry and Luis Scola. I think we will resign both (we really like both of them) and lets assume they get $10 million a year combined (qualifying offers add up to $7 million). So with all that we are sitting at $50 million with a roster of Yao, Landry, Scola, Lowry, Brooks, Budinger, David Anderson, Ariza, Battier and Jermaine Taylor.

We do have a team option on Chuck Hayes for $2.3 million but I don't think we will pick it up. Joey Dorsey also has $1 million but its not guaranteed and we will probably cut him.

We will either do what I wrote above and have $8 million plus the MLE to sign free agents or we will not keep Scola putting us in position to go after a big free agent. Not resigning him gives us roughly $14 million plus MLE to get a big name guy. We are supposedly very interested in Chris Bosh because they think he is perfect to run next to Yao. If this is truly the case I'm betting we move Battier and use our $5 million in trade exceptions to get an expiring big contract to free up another $7 million. Battier is falling off but is still a good player that a true contender could use. He also only has that one year left after this season so the team trading for him won't be stuck with a player who could completely fall off soon.

SO long story short the Rockets could pretty easily be in position to have the cap space available to go after the big names.

McGrady's 23 million will be gone. The others leaving are Brian Cook (3.5), Chuck Hayes (2.1), Carl Landry (3.0), Kyle Lowry (2.0) and Luis Scola (3.3). We love Lowry and Landry so I would all but guarantee they are resigned. Lets say they end up combining for 10 million in salary with their new contracts. That still gives us 20 millio

0-15 for the Nets now.

If they don't beat the Kings on Friday, they're going to set the record because they play at the Lakers on Sunday and at home against Dallas next Wednesday.

boston had a hard time with the sixers tonight, when the sixers were on the road on the second night of a back-to-back, with lou williams, elton brand and marreese speights out of the lineup. wtf???

So does Utah pick John Wall?

I've been unable to find anything about this online (The Giricek reference).

almost a better chance of getting the no. 1 pick if you don't have the best record, anyway

It's prolly why Sloan had Thomas induct him. He owed him one for that trade.

Down 25 at halftime, the Nets are well on their way to 0-17 and tying the record.

Rockets beat Thunder even with Scola getting hurt. Landry has 17 and 9 in the second half. We'll likely get to see what Landry can do for a handful of games as a starter. Scola may very well be losing his starter job permanently if Landry does well.

Well, 3 more games for the Nets until a possible winless streak snap in Chicago. I don't know why I'm concerned about it, but I can just see it happening.

people think of landry as one of those ground-bound undersized guys who move people with their ass like barkley, but i was surprised by how athletic he was

Ron Artest admits to having drank at half time of NBA games (probably not the first or last guy to ever do it, but still). Real class act this guy.

If Artest was smart, he'd just write a tell-all book like Agassi did. I mean, he's obviously more than willing to tell people about the things he did, why not make money off of it? I'd absolutely read an Artest autobiography.
