There was an article in today's paper about how top heavy the league is and that parity is totally out the window in the NBA. The Cavs, Celtics, Lakers, Spurs, and to a lesser extent, Magic and Mavericks are just spending like crazy and, on paper, look like the teams to beat.

I'm very curious about this Spurs team. Good offseason, and a good draft. If healthy they should be right there with the Lakers.

plus they got Richard Jefferson for a song

In my mind they are the team to beat in the West. McDyess and Blair are going to be big help for them inside and Jefferson will fit in. If they stay relatively healthy I have them ahead of the Lakers.

Spurs/Cavs final

Blake Griffin out 6-8 weeks with a broken knee cap. Wow the Clippers have some terrible luck

I wonder if Bob Stoops can do an evaluation on him? He could be ready by next week then.

Blair was the one I was really excited about. He won't see a lot of playing time this year, but he is the type of body they need in the middle and a lot of energy.

BP's NBA 2009-10 Projections

Some interesting notes from the projections:

- Neither team likes the Wizards this year, despite them somehow being a trendy pick among "experts".

- Both agree overall that the five contenders are the Cavs, Celtics, Magic, Lakers and Spurs. One system also likes the Hornets and Mavs, the other also likes the Jazz.

- Both agree overall that the Wizards, Pacers, Kings, Thunder, T-Wolves and Warriors will be lottery-bound for sure.

- The biggest discrepancies between the systems seems to be the Hawks (one system has them 5th and the other has them 14th), the Bucks (one system has them 7th and the other has them with the worst record in the NBA) and the Rockets (one has them 5th the other 11th).

- The SCHOENE system really thinks the East blows after the top 3, predicting the 7th seed at 37-45.

I agree with most of those, except the last one. I think the Bulls will probably be the 7th seed and they'll finish around the same mark as last year.

To a lesser extent Magic? Don't see how you can say that. They are easily among the group you listed first.

I'm not sold on Vince Carter staying healthy all year

Carter hasn't missed significant time in years. Personally I'm less sold on Garnett, Manu, and Shaq staying healthy. Maybe even Kobe who has a lot of miles on him at this point.

Exactly. All the top teams have key players who get hurt a lot. VC is one of the least hurt among them. He has played in at least 73 games in every year starting in 03-04. Garnett has been banged up more and more every year and his performance has declined along with it. Shaq has never been a healthy guy even going back to his last year in Orlando. Duncan and Ginobli are has injury prone as any star not named Arenas.

The only team without major injury issues is L.A. but they still have Bynum to worry about as well as whether or not Artest will be OK with playing third fiddle in the offense and mainly just be a defender.

It's still hilarious that Adam Morrison gets a championship ring.

That might have been the worst ring night celebration ever.

Of course, I think a good ring night might be the first.

I think Ron will be fine because I think the Lakers will be a 55-60 win team and he really wants to win a championship and knows that he can't go nuts if he wants a chance at it.

I'm more worried about how he'll act after he gets a title (if the Lakers do win another one) or if the Lakers don't win one in the next two or three years since he's on a five-year deal.
