well that ump cost them a run.

The Gomez AB didn't help. Hit a fly for crying out loud. He is not a Major League hitter.

Would have been a double play if he wasn't so fast.

Would have been a sac fly if he didn't swing like a girl

that was a rope

LAZER BEAM. Is this Chip's only series?

He's on their NLCS team

edit: so he gets the 1 game playoff, a 5 game, and a 7 game

Basically he probably gets to talk more than anyone else in the playoffs

I used to like TBS's sports coverage. They do everything well except Chip.

my friend posted this on facebook and it's kind of the reason i have trouble taking the yankees and their fans seriously:

holy [expletive] what a game! something special this year!

special? they've won 26 championships, which is more than double the number than any other franchise has won. their payroll is about 33% larger than that of any other team in the game, they've been leading their division and league for most of the year, they have more talent than any other roster in the game, and were probably favored to win it all going into 2009. how is this special at all?

It's special because of all the home grown players. The front office really worked hard to put this team in place.

Winning another one the first year in the new stadium would be pretty cool.

It's going to get a lot, lot worse as the Yankees advance. The entitlement that fanbase feels and vocalizes at every opportunity is a frightening thing.

Jealousy is unbecoming.

True, I forgot about that aspect. The Cardinals did this as well.

the guys who hit the game-tying and game-winning home run are making about $12M less than the entire twins roster.

Don't forget to add in the left field line ump's salary, in which case it would add up to $10M less, after you add in Steinbrenner's payout.

if i wanted to root for a team that wins i'd just give up on the cubs and pick the yankees or red sox or something. really, how is it special? imo it's not even a big deal to win in the first year of a ballpark - it's a lot more meaningful to win right before they tear one down.

The Yankees (and A-Rod in particular) are emerging from the ashes of a disastrous period. If I were a Yankee fan, sure it would be "special" (whatever that means.)

How is a dramatic postseason win ever not "special?"

I'd like to reiterate my belief that John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman are absolutely the worst broadcasters in pro sports. How can such buffoons keep jobs in the number one media market in this country?

I finally saw that blown call by the LF ump on that "foul ball", and all I can say is Bud Selig and baseball will have a hard time convincing me that expanded instant replay isn't necessary and that they want to keep the "human element" part of the game. After that call coupled with bad calls in recent years and I think I want the "human element" taken out of the game.

The Yankees win isn't specials, it's a typical Yankees postseason victory. Besides who didn't know that ARod was going to homer off Joe Nathan?

haha i wish the cubs' history was such that not winning the world series for 9 years could be considered "disastrous"

almost a decade of having (by far) the largest payroll but zero world titles is pretty much the definition of disastrous

You and I both, but I don't think one can easily dismiss the blow they took this spring. Between the steroid talk and the hip injury there was rampant speculation that A-Rod was all but done for.

I can't help but be happy for the guy, even though I like the Twins.

The human element will remain with strike-ball and safe-out calls but, when it comes to plays such as last night. There's no human element involved the ball' either fair or foul.

Pettitte perfect through 4, 5 K.

Meanwhile, through 4+, Pavano has surrendered 2 hits, 0 BB and 0 R while recording 6 K.

Unexpected pitchers' duel.
