I can see how umps have bad angles and sometimes have to look at multiple things at the same time (glove, base, runner's hand, etc.), but seriously, the ump is paid to make that call and all he had to do was locate the ball and where it bounced. I don't know how the hell you screw that up.

I love how the announcers are talking about how Mauer couldn't go to third because he had to wait for the ball to get through the infield.

 

Just say he's a slow catcher and that ball was hit pretty hard. It's not like Joe Mauer is Carl Crawford or something.

if it's the third base ump i can kind of understand. the guy is the LEFT FIELD ump. his job is basically to get calls right on the left field line.
