The whining about competitive imbalance is sure to begin anew in the morning, but Minnesota has given away this series on the basepaths.

Home plate getting removed at the Metrodome.

Looks like the people who started the digging couldn't finish it? Weird ... I distinctly remember during the telecast that the people who started digging up home plate had black dress shoes on.

There are a few pictures from the AP that I've looked at and all of them, including this guy, have one person with dress shoes on and the other two have sneakers. I didn't see any video of it, though.

Maybe a couple guys with dress shoes came out as sort of a ceremonial thing and then the actual workers came to dig it up?

The whole thing just seemed weird to me. First of all, I didn't expect home plate to be so deep. That thing is huge. Secondly, they had to do it immediately after the game with the crowd still there and the Yankees still celebrating? They couldn't wait until the next day?

That was the point - if no one was around, the act would have no ceremonial value. This is typically done after the last game at a park, the earliest example I'm aware of being the Crosley Field plate that was moved to Riverfront Stadium in 1970.

It didn't really have any ceremonial value anyways. There was no announcement from what I can tell. Nobody was posing with the shovel, I didn't see any photogrphers around or anything. From what I saw, they just gathered around with a shovel and started digging.

Did you miss the picture?

In a normal situation (no playoffs) there would be an announcement and whatnot.
