So, after last nights game against the Tigers once again he ripped his players for watching Saturday football games and what not. Because there were some players heading into the dug out to watch games. I don't get why players seem to quit in whatever sport it is weather it's baseball or football. These guys are suppose to be grown men playing a sport that they love, but like Randy Jones told us is that the love for the game in baseball is dying. What a shame, we are on the side of Ozzie but I would have pulled all the players that were watching the football games and replaced them.

I wasn't paying attention to the sox last night...were the players watching football in the dugout during the game? Why did Ozzie have a tv in the dugout with football on during the game if that's the case? Or are you talking the clubhouse? If they were going into the clubhouse during the game to watch tv, I would have told them they could stay there.

Now, if they were watching football before the game started, I don't see what the big deal is.

Wait...so according to the article, they were watching football in the clubhouse AFTER the game had ended. And none of the players even turned the tv on - the game was already on when they walked into the clubhouse.

So, Ozzie is that upset that a bunch of athletes were watching sports after they had finished playing for the day? Nah, I can't back him on this one. I think this is typical crazy Ozzie getting worked up over nothing.

This is cliche and I'll probably get flamed for saying this - but at least he cares. Piniella has looked like a beached whale in the dugout most of the year.

Ranting and raving about dumb things all the time doesn't prove you care, it just proves that you're not very bright.

I agree, while it may have been a little out of line. I still would rather have him show he still cares and if I had to read between the lines of why he flipped out the way he did is because he would rather have his guys show some emotion of being upset or pissed off that they will not be making the playoffs rather than a group of guys walking around the club house happy go lucky. Which if that's the case he has a point I would rather have a bunch of pissed off players in the club house when they got knocked out of the playoffs rather than having a group with a attitude of 'oh well' and more interested in seeing football games regardless of when they did it or not.

Vomit.

Exactly, but you can see that hardly anyone now and day's play baseball just because you can that's why there is steroids in the game and salaries are so high. One of many reasons as to why baseball isn't what it use to be.

This is my favorite part if you were wondering.

Half the words coming from Ozzie's mouth are absolutely nonsense. It's sometimes hard to take him seriously.

That said, he brings a lot of passion and heart, I believe, and there are clearly some managers in baseball who would benefit if they had half the heart he had.

Agreed. Unless your screaming like a lunatic you have no heart.

is it even possible for this board to get more sarcastic? god forbid you explain your PoV instead of the sarcasm

One would think it wouldn't be necessary to explain how Ozzie's rants have little to nothing to do with the abilities of the baseball players he manages and the games they play.

Am I alone in the thought that a team takes on the identity of its' coach? Are you discounting that entirely?

I'm sure you're not alone but I'd just like to say I think that's a completely meaningless statement. Are the White Sox a bunch of ranting lunatics? I don't think so. Guillen has been there a long time and I don't see how they've taken on his identity.

Wouldn't the very White Sox team being discussed go against that thought?

I don't think its a meaningless statement at all. Just because they're not running around cursing like a sailor doesn't mean they haven't picked up on a few of Ozzie's likes/dislikes.

I continually get flamed for saying this, but I do it anyway. Clubhouse chemistry is important. Yea winning (obviously) helps, but players trust in their manager is incalculable, and extremely important to a winning franchise imo.

I really respect your opinions, so...question....how much do you think Tracy has to do with Colorado's turnaround?

Diamond I don't think that your the only one that feels clubhouse chemistry is important my brother and I feel the same way as you do is that good clubhouse = winning teams. You have all the talent and if the clubhouse isn't a good place to be then your going to run into troubles and I believe that is one of the downfalls to the Mets. As for Tracy being able to turning Colorado around not sold on that one as much as I am sold on the fact that the players there love changing coaches mid way during the yr as a way to use it as motivation, because if Tracy was as good as he showed this yr then he would have been able to win in Arizona.

1. The Mets stunk because all of their best players were injured

2. I am confident in going on record saying players do not "love" changing managers midseason.

3. Jim Tracy never managed in Arizona

4. ...what?

Two things.

1) I think clubhouse chemistry has less to do with the Mets' troubles than their myriad of injuries.

2) Jim Tracy never managed in Arizona.

EDIT: Damn you, MBC!

Yes, because it's a horrible idea since most MLB managers are terrible. I'm not so much discounting it as I am hoping to God that it's not true.
